Seasonally Block Child Rental without Blocking Parent

Hello,

I have a 2 bedroom condo where 1 bed and 1 bath lock off into their own unit. This makes 3 options

44 - Entire 2 bed condo

44A - One portion of 44 with 1 bed, 1 bath, the living room, and kitchen

44B - One bed and one bath making a hotel room style unit.

44B I do not rent out to guests but sometimes stay in myself during the winter. During the spring, summer, and fall I am not there an only want 44 to be available.

I tried setting this up as two listings where 44 was the parent and 44A was the child. The problem with this is when I block 44A for the spring summer and fall it blocks the parent which is not what I want. I also tried snoozing 44A for a period of time but that blocks the parent as well.

Wondering if anyone else has encounter this use case and found a way to get the benefit of the parent child setup when they are using both listings but found a way to block the child without blocking the parent in other instances.

@Kelsey302 I hope Airbnb hasn't screwed up what used to work well. Can I just check how you are set up.

You should have 3 independent listings

44

44A

44B

the calendar from 44A should be linked to that of 44B

the calendar from 44B should be linked to that of 44

When you want 44B you should block its calendar which should block 44 but not 44A

When you don't want 44B you should block 44A which should block 44B but leave 44 available.

I am staring at this and think I have it right!!!!!! But it is doing my head in so I'll leave it to you to tell me if I am right or not!

Hi Mike and Jane,

Yes that is actually how I got it to work properly. I had to list 44B. However, I didn't want to list 44B because it is only for me to stay in if 44A is rented. I don't want people to actually book 44B. Also in the Spring, Summer, Fall I don't want 44A or 44B to be available at all because I am not there and thus want to rent the entire thing. However if I try to put 44A and 44B listing on pause or to sleep it is the same thing as blocking it and 44 gets blocked as well which I don't want and I don't see any way to seasonably control the availability of certain units. What I have done as a work around is just put the price for 44B really high hoping that will deter people from booking it. And then in spring summer fall I also have the price of 44A high. Not ideal but seems to work as a hack

It was also really tricky to get this syncing properly with VRBO which doesn't have the parent child functionality. I was able to get it working by creating the same listings in VRBO and just linking them to the corresponding airbnb calendar. So if 44A rents in VRBO, VRBO doesn't know that 44 should be blocked, but 44A in airbnb gets blocked which blocks 44 in airbnb and then that syncs back to VRBO and blocks 44. Was very pleased when I figured out how to get that working properly lol.

Thanks,

Kelsey
