Airbnb’s star system is flawed as is their policy on removing reviews based on a flawed star system.
The star rating SHOULD be based on the average of stars given in the specific areas. It doesn’t make sense that a guest can give 3s, 4s, and 5s in specific areas yet give a 1 star as the final rating.
It is also unfair that there isn’t a review system in place for Airbnb to recognize extenuating circumstances based on the actions of a guest and just not the words used in a review. For instance, the guest asks for another night, which you deny. So ten minutes after they check out they write a one star review. They don’t use words to state that’s what they’re doing, but it is obvious to a non-AI.
Airbnb uses terms like “retaliatory” and “misleading” to describe violating reviews. A guest who complains about things that are clearly stated in the listing and thus gives a low star review is misleading to future guests. However they refuse to remove reviews like this.
Ultimately Airbnb needs to reconsider their entire review policy. It is deeply flawed.
