I have had superhost status for the whole time I have been hosting (3 years) until now, when I could have got financial help from Airbnb.
It was taken away literally the same week they announced the help for super hosts.
It was taken away because of a drop of one point after a review by someone where our brand new heating broke and they did not tell us.
I have no income. I have my 83 year old mother here with heart failure, a diabetic husband who can no longer work and my 13 year old son and it is for these reasons I started Airbnb which we rely on totally. I have been totally abandoned by Airbnb at exactly the point I need them most. Not only has our income totally disappeared like everyone else’s but now we have no recourse to the assistance for superhosts that we had days before the announcement.
It is almost as if Airbnb revoked our superhost status to save money where they could.
I feel abused. I used to believe in Airbnb. I used to think it was an ethical company. Now our only income has collapsed under our feet and Airbnb has dropped us in the very same week. Please see my messages to you, Airbnb, about the unfairness of Helga’s review some weeks ago which has now led directly to this.
We get consistently positive reviews but live in the constant dread of an unfair review from a guest. Now we get one when it mattered most. I think the system where hosts are at the mercy of guests for their income like this is fundamentally flawed. We can never give guests the reviews we might want to - it would jeopardise the chances of them ever booking again. Guests can say what they like without a care in the world.
