Airbnb to cover costs of COVID 19 cancellations

I read today in news.com.au that Airbnb announced $US 250 million to hosts around the world to help cover the cost of COVID 19 cancellations.

Can anyone throw some light on this please? How does it work? How does one apply?

From his first video he sent out this was only go to be for the USA at least to start he mentioned and I know most of us here in the USA have not received any compensation.

It is definitely not just for hosts in the US @Hollie6 . That wouldn't make sense as they are targeting the hosts with lowest incomes who have been most affected,  many of whom are likely to live in poorer countries where hosts are likely to be worse off.
