Cancelling trip due to Covid-19

Hi

I have my honeymoon planned in September this year. My trips was booked in Late December / early January. However with Covid-19 happening around the world. I’ve lost my job and is unable to proceed with my honeymoon due to personal and obviously financial reasons. I am wondering whether would I be entitled for a refund should I cancel my trips? I understand that Airbnb’s policy states that you will lose 50% of your booking however as this is a once in a century pandemic and I believe I am giving my host ample of time to look for a new potential client in cancelling early.

Please advice

Hi @Javin3

You should be able to claim on your travel insurance. I don't see many hosts being sympathetic to cancellations for free at this distance given that you knew what their policy was when you booked your stay. The only other suggestion I have is to contact the host and see what they say.

@Javin3  The cancellation policy that applies to you is the one that you agreed to when you placed the booking. Nothing in that policy states that there's an exemption for personal or financial issues. Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to reality.

Airbnb is offering exemptions to hosts' cancellation policies for trips affected by Covid19 and related travel restrictions. The currently eligible time frame is bookings with check in dates up to 31 May,;this may be extended further, but it remains to be seen whether it will go all the way up to September.

The best thing you can do now is follow  @Mike-And-Jane0 's advice and claim on your travel insurance. I mean, nobody would book a honeymoon without buying travel insurance,, right?
