Covid-19 refund documentation

Our group of 6 is planning to go to Greece in of May. However, right now the airlines we booked with have been cancelling their flights. With our departure date still about 5 weeks away, it's unknown whether the flights will be available. The Airbnb host already said they won't refund us.

We are from NYC, the epicenter of the outbreak in the US. We are leaning toward cancelling our reservation under Airbnb's extenuating circumstances policy to get a credit for a future booking.

However, Airbnb's policy says we have to submit documentation. What documentation does Airbnb need to see? We are not Covid-19 positive, and right now we can't prove that the flights will be cancelled, since that's in the future.

Has anyone cancelled a planned May trip and gotten a credit or refund? Could you please briefly share your experience and what docs you submitted to Airbnb?

Thank you.

@Kuen5 From my reading, there is a 14 day mandatory quarantine for any international travelers entering Greece at this time, there are also self-isolation orders in effect and all the islands are closed to all but permanent residents. https://gr.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/

If you can't go there, or would need to go into 2 weeks of quarantine if you did, then it obviously isn't feasible, and it seems this is the type of documentation you would need to submit. Also, I doubt that NY will lift the self-isolation orders by May. That would mean you can't just go to the airport to catch a flight for a vacation. But you should contact Airbnb to find out.

Also, as I'm sure you are aware, things are changing daily everywhere. Tomorrow Greece could close their airports to all incoming travellers who aren't residents.
