Following this year's theme, Christmas is also weird. Even so, our cities are the constant to better times, still looking festive and the best they've been all year round.
London might not be the same this year, but December still remains the month of mulled wine and extravagant lights.
Since we are unable to travel, I thought I'd share with you a few photos. From my local area in Chelsea to central London's displays, this is the city in its astonishing Christmas attire.
Whether you are in a big city or a small village, a winter wonderland or a Down Under sea-sun-sand paradise, what do your Christmas decorations look like?
’tis the season to live vicariously through other people’s photos and all that. So heat up some merlot, pop in a cinnamon stick and Merry Christmas to all of you!
Ho-ho-ho 🎄🎅

Wow, @Nick, these photographs are incredible! I loved this tour of London dressed up in Christmas lights. I've never been there for Christmas but now feel as if I have, and already can't wait to go again. The Cartier building looks amazing. Thank you, Nick! Merry Christmas!
So beautiful. @Nick these are breathtaking, thank you for sharing. St. Petersburg is stunning around this time of the year. I am trying to think of a host from there (Elena I think, but dont remember the number after the name). Maybe she can share some pictures from there.
Aww I feel like these pics help me rediscover my own city here @Nick 👏 So many that I recognise, but some that I've never seen before either - I haven't ever been to Cartier for example. I think I might have to get my walking shoes on and see some of them before they get taken down until next year!
We can go there any time now that is closed, otherwise not taking that risk @Katie 😂😂
It's in New Bond Street, and there are many more beautiful decorations in other stores; Chanel has done a brilliant job for example.
But the whole street is very Instagramable.
@Nick what great photos, did you take them yourself???
How long does it take to walk that loop around London?
We are still under partial lockdown here. All restaurants, malls and most of the small shops will remain closed until 31.01.2021.
These look good @Dimitar27! Yep, it's the same here in the UK - 75% of the counties are in Tier 4, which is basically lockdown. It's a good time to get out walking and see the local sights without encountering too many people though!
Great shot @Dimitar27 and thank you for sharing! As @Katie said it's the same for most of us here.
Also this Christmas ball looks a lot like the ones they do this year in Athens, and a few years back in Brighton. I'm guessing they are scattered throughout the city?
@Nick You have captured so many sensational photos - who doesn't love all things 'shiny & bright'!
Here are a few snapshots from the streets of Sydney CBD 'beginning to look a lot like Chistmas'.
Wow, the cathedral looks amazing @Trudie7! Are the colours projected onto it or is it done a different way?
Those are really great @Trudie7
I'm captivated by the 3D mapping on the Cathedral. I'd love to visit Sydney soon
@Nick Oh Nick! I love your photos. It was such a pleasure to have a glimpse of London in @Liv 's post - but yours is the full monty! I miss London so much. Everything is so familiar in your photos - it was a real trip down memory lane! it is the best time to be in London - though Spring is pretty special too!
Stay healthy and safe and Happy New Year!
Catherine
Thank you so much for your kind words @Catherine-Powell I'm genuinely glad you enjoyed them.
I agree that Spring is the best time of the year in London and the UK in general. It's astonishing how much variety in trees, flowers and parks there is in the city, and it's so beautiful to see everything blossom - I guess it's the silver lining for living with so much rain all the time.
Hope this year brings lots of happiness and love to you and yours, and please don't hesitate to update us with news of the new puppy! He is such a cutie!
