Hate, Discrimination, Cyberbullying, Defamation and Retaliation on Airbnb Reviews Result in Suicides

Airbnb point system to remove reviews is contrary to current research on cyberbullying victim suicide statistical considerations. Airbnb places the same value for profanity as cyberbullying (name calling/ personal attacks/character assassination). Profanity results in less favorable impression ratings of the speaker in overall impression, on intelligence, trustworthiness, proneness to anger, deviancy, politeness, offensiveness, aggressiveness, and likability. No suicides. Whereas, Cyberbullying (name calling/ personal attacks/character assassination) is a form of aggression by using the internet and/or electronic communication, such as mobile phones, e-mail, and text message, to cause humiliation, terrorization, embarrassment, and/or psychological distress to a peer (the recipient of the cyberbullying) which has higher statistical rates of suicide than verbal bullying. In comparison, verbal bullying, a research study showed that individuals who reported cyberbullying were 11.5 times more likely to have suicidal ideation, while those who have reported verbal bullying were only 8.4 times more Iikely. Cyberbullying statistics show the high cost of online harassment. From increased depression and suicide rates to social anxiety and alienation, the pain and consequences of online harassment are as severe as they are undeniable.

Consider the following situations and how they impact you personally.
  1. Someone yells, "Brain, Nathan and Joe F@#k YOU."
  2. Someone yells, "Brain, Nathan and Joe, you are all racist."
  3. Someone posts on social media, "Brain, Nathan and Joe are all racist."
The weight of these three situations has a significantly different impact on Brian and Nathan directly.

Cyberbullyies causing  humiliation, terrorization, embarrassment, and/or psychological distress should NEVER have space in the Airbnb community.  A person should not have to commit suicide due to the detrimental effects from a cyberbullying abusive review or messaging taking place on the Airbnb platform.  Airbnb has a responsibility for the safety of its user community from cyberbullying abuse taking place on its platform. The Airbnb point system should be set at the highest point level when addressing cyberbullying abusive messages and/or reviews for immediate removal when reported. It was disturbing to discover the point system for profanity and Cyberbullying (name calling/personal attacks/character assassination)  contained the same point consideration. This stance by Airbnb is antiquated and inadvertently supports and protects cyberbullying abusers. The non-action and actual DENIAL by Airbnb to remove this content continues to perpetrate the cyberbullying abuse with detrimental effects on the recipient each minute, hour, day, week , month, year the abusive statements remain in the public space. Cyberbullying abusive statements remain at the direction of Airbnb. The unjust cyberbullying abusive policy remains in place at Airbnb continuing to cause humiliation, terrorization, embarrassment, and psychological distress to individuals in the Airbnb community and MUST be changed immediately. The Airbnb support representatives are aware but can't remove the cyberbullying reviews based on current policy. It is virtually impossible to get the policy and cyberbullying abusive situation reviewed by the Executive Team, Board of Directors, the Press Department, Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk, Dave Stephenson, Joe Gebbia and others. Airbnb support representatives state they do not have contact information and are unable to escalate the situation and/or review of policy to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, the Press Department, Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk, Dave Stephenson, Joe Gebbia and others. This is alarming. Help escalate this situation to the Executive Team, Board of Directors, the Press Department, Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk, Dave Stephenson, Joe Gebbia and others and stop the cyberbullying abuse in the Airbnb community.

Hello again all,

Sadly, I feel that this conversation has no benefit to the community as I feel that some of the comments continued to contain some personal remarks. I have, therefore, decided to close this topic keeping the best interest of the CC in mind.

It is important that we all remember though at the moment, what the purpose of the Community Center is and that we don't pass our frustration on to our fellow community members, we all want to get along here and support each other. I am sure we all do too.

@Flavia343, as mentioned earlier, I have passed this on to team to ensure this is looked into for you.

Thank you all for your participation,

Quincy
