Hello everyone,

Over the years of knowing many of you, I have noticed we have quite a creative group of people here in the CC. Many of you have great flare with the paint brush creating artworks for your walls, some of you have constructed your own furniture, knit beautiful blankets and some of you have even built the whole house. 🙂

These personal touches can really make your listing feel like a home.

Have you ever created anything for yours and do they ever become a talking point with your guests?

It would be great to hear your experiences.

Did you wife draw a design before she created your mosaic designs?

How many hours did it take her to make it wall pattern?

In Austria some of the homes when I visited there had paintings on the outside of them which looked really amazing - I only wish i could recall which part of Austria it was in.

I recently had a guest from Austria who wasn't sure where they are, if anyone from Austria is reading this, or has traveled to Austria and knbows where they are please let us know, Thanks in advance

I created this mosaic shower design.  The tiles are regular subway tiles painted individually!  It was for sure a project but came out well.  IDK why the photo uploaded sideways but?  I added a few creative touches here and there like this.Handpainted mosaic shower

Did you hand paint the tiles yourself?

Did you lay out all your tiles into the end design you placed them in prior to laying them out and hanging them?

They look amazing, love the lilacs and blues

Yes I used a paint that needed to be oven cured and then the tiles had to dry for sometime before they were grouted.  I laid them all out many times before I was satisfied with the design! Thank you for the compliment!

Lavender sachets for the clothes dryer, using my homegrown lavender 🙂 I let guests know they can take one home if they like.

@Lizzie  This is such a terrific idea for a post for this talented and diverse crowd of hosts. So many styles and personalities come to the forefront quickly when we get to see just a few of the creations, upcycled, painted, overhauled and unique treasures displayed here. It is inspiring and encouraging and I think important that we work to continually stimulate our minds and skills, crafts or whatever lies hidden in some folks. I enjoy upcycling and making anything and everything I can and try my best at having some fun along the way.

 Since I have a special 8 generation family history here in Florida and in the books as some of the founding fathers in Pensacola I must keep that somehow alive (well, just alittle). My grandfather was a public servant,known by all, postmaster and avid horseman, wanna be painter (late in life) - so when I discovered and received his very first attempt at painting I just couldn't keep it in a closet all put away. It was an outlined painting of my lovely grandmother - she was seated but the chair and other features where NOT completed so I added what I could and I decided to have some fun.....She looks so funky, the proportions are all wrong and it is so adorably primitive that I love it. Of course, I added using my good ole hot glue gun-  some lace,  real pearls, a special ring and ribbons and other jewelry to make it as tacky as I could.......and I hung it in the cottage bathroom with a note card explaining about it - I now have guests returning for the 4th time and I'm excited to hear what they think!

 I have one of his later paintings after he learned painting alittle better! I get to share this with guests and enjoy

that so much! It is important to keep my family history alive

as long as I can, I suppose.

I made all the artwork, I am a chef and cook the food, and my husband and I built the house..I mean really built it. And I appologize for the duplications. No matter how hard I tried I could not get them to deletecharcuterie platter for happy hourdesigned and built the houselaid the tileMade the coffee tableand drapes

How long did it take to build?

Did you design it yourself?
Or get an architect to do it for you?

Two years. I designed it, but had an architect help me with the requirements for building it. For example, the need for trusses to support the roof wothout columns and walls etc cutting up spaces. The downstairs only has one wall in the entire space 🙂 I knew what I wanted, but dot exactly what was required. We did all the interior design, electrical and tiling, as well as landscaping and garden design.

I've been wrestling whether to post in this thread, but it's actually quite difficult.  I think I'm now at the point of procrastination / avoidance on it lol....

You see, the thing with artists is we can no sooner choose a favourite star in the night sky than choose a favourite piece of art.  And for me, my cottage is art.  I created it, every piece of it, right down to rolling the last bees wax candle stick. I crafted the light fittings from driftwood, I made the chandaliers by hand, wove every bead... I even built the beds!  I built the pantry and the kitchen myself, put every shelf, windowsill and ceiling beam... the tiling... the painting... then the finer things like building all the furniture from pallet wood... the TV cabinet... the table...

I even fetched sea shells from the beach, polished them by hand, framed and mounted them on the walls...

Please.  Don't make me choose.  Just look at my listing and save me from, what would be, a scrolling nightmare of pictures I would be forced to post every.... single... one of.

 I have made several items for our Airbnb listing.  The window treatments and shower curtains in both bathrooms are hand made.  There are 4 side tables I upcycled using treadle sewing machine bases and wooden trays or old table tops.  My daughter painted some original art work for the kitchen and also made a 6 piece set of coffee mugs to match the backsplah tile in kitchen.   A number of furniture pieces in the house were "road kill" found on the side of the road.  I dragged them home, cleaned and then refinished each piece.  I hand painted the pressed tin tiles we used as part of the kitchen backspash.   My husband refinished all the original doors,  wood trim and base boards in the house.  He replaced all the sheet rock for the floors and ceiling.  He took all the old door knobs and hinges to be rechromed so now they shine like new.  I'm always on the lookout for another item to restore and add to the house.

We've thus far constructed a shelving unit in one of the bathrooms out of leftover flooring material we had and installed bookshelves in the 'entertainment' area of our cabin.

Maybe it doesn't count, but I actually made the entire space. It's a tiny house! I'll be adding the listing sometime this spring.
