5th time I'm posting this and all my previous posts have been deleted.
Isn't there just ONE honest host?
Why is everybody LYING about cleaning their properties for 20 to 50 hours between guests?
I wanted to READ this idiotic policy, Airbnb thanked me for AGREEING.
HOW do I opt out?
I will NOT lie to my guests and somebody needs to take this GIANT AIRBNB FRAUD to the media!
@Francesco1366 I figured that's how other hosts "sanitize" -- open the kitchen cabinet, spray that disgusting sanitizer around a little and then claim it's "sanitized."
The "down to the doorknob" cracks me up, as if a doorknob is something people wouldn't normally think of sterilizing. Doorknobs are some of the most bacteria-laden things you can touch, way worse than a toilet seat.. If I was going to sterilize only one thing, it would be the doorknob.

"High-touch surfaces
All surfaces, especially those frequently touched, should be cleaned and sanitized with disinfectant."
What does that mean?
Specifically, what is the meaning of "all?"
@Christine455 , you have to judge yourself, it is not possible to specify these details otherwise it would only take you an hour to read. It means what is written, moreover sanitizing means spraying a surface with a product suitable for sanitizing
I just UNLISTED my house after watching this horrific Airbnb cleaning video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOeiGLlHKBA&feature=youtu.be
If I wanted a cleaning job in the ICU, at least I'd get a decent wage. But I don't, and my house isn't a hospital.
Not to mention that MY health is most important and I'd never subject myself to all these chemicals.
I read the cleaning checklists, I'd be cleaning AT LEAST 30 hours. And I know that all these hosts with houses are LYING about complying with these idiotic requirements. You can't gross a few hundred and spend MORE than that on cleaners and make money.
It is what it is.
@Christine455 , thanks for sharing the video. Congratulations on unlisting your ad because you disagree, however you are very wrong to say that everyone will not respect the requirement and will lie. Please stop. With the right organization it takes little more than a normal cleaning, indeed it could take even less if you weren't organized before.
@Francesco1366 Thank you for handling this while I slept 😊 You said all the right things to @Christine455
There are only 5 steps listing what most experienced cleaners do already.
1. Open the windows and air the place out
2. Sweep, vacuum, dust, mop, do dishes, do laundry, wipe wipe wipe, make the beds [my addition]
3. Spray or wipe things with disinfectant. (You probably already did this in 2.)
4. Go over your list and make sure you didn't forget anything.
5. Put out fresh towels and leave.
Cleaning out all the kitchen cabinets is something you do at spring cleaning time, not between every guest.
Even the CDC doesn't recommend anything more than the above unless someone with the illness has been in the home.
@Ann72 The good thing is that guests are probably really only expecting the simplicity of those 5 steps. Unfortunately, the room my room checklist is much more detailed and truly unattainable if a cleaner wishes to turn over the space in a reasonable amount of time.
@Emilia42 I know, but read what they say:
"Refer to the room-by-room cleaning checklist." They don't say follow the room-by-room cleaning checklist.
They say over and over again that hosts have to follow the 5-step cleaning process. Any link for guests - like "learn more" or "Presenting Airbnb Enhanced Clean" - refers only to the 5-step cleaning process and doesn't bring the guests to the room-by-room checklists.
Forty years of professionally analyzing the written word stands me in good stead at times like these. 😊
Very true, good points. I suppose all is good and dandy until I am at the mercy of an Airbnb CS rep who threatens to suspend my listing because a guest said there was some dust on a blind (must not have been sanitized.) But that is all speculation because I've seen a few reviews for hosts who clearly didn't even clean in between guests and these hosts signed up back in June but their listings are still standing.
Last week actually, I had a guest who checked out in the morning. That evening I got a call from them saying that they had just checked into another Airbnb and it was so "unsafe" and disgusting that they could not stay there! They drove 2 hours back to me and stayed another 2 nights.
@Emilia42 That's an incredible story! It's horrifying what people think guests will accept and put up with. Have you taught your loyal guest how to report the listing? 🙂
I'm not worried and I don't think you should be, either. In addition to having all the cleaning supplies stowed away in an upper cabinet in the laundry room, where guests can see them if they want to, I have disinfecting counter spray in the kitchen along with hand sanitizer. I know the house will be spotless when guests check in, because Patty wouldn't have it any other way.
@Ann72 On many of these sketchy AF listings what baffles me is how there can be so many great reviews mixed in. I mean, many of these places have overall ratings of well over 4.0. That should be "good" right?
You're right, we shouldn't be worried. Patty won't fail you and I'll keep doing what I'm doing. 🙂
@Ann72 You missed the one about cleaning then sanitizing then NOT going back into the room but THEN making the beds and putting fresh towels . . . .
@Carol280 I didn't miss it - making the bed is not included in Step 5. It's not specified anywhere, so I put it in Step 2. An experienced cleaner would never go back in after sanitizing the whole room. Their Step 5 is just stupid and confusing. Whoever wrote those steps is less organized than my housekeeper.
Queen @Ann72 , I am happy to assist you here during your royal sleep, to do it better I decided to live on the other side of the world 😄 Sure you would have answered much better, I humbly bow to your experience. Thanks for sharing it with us.
