Just became a Superhost for the second time and want to try host an AIR BNB Experience

Hi There  everyone , i am so excited to get the message from AirBNB that we received Superhost status for the second time in 6 months ( we only on Airbnb for 6 months)and want to build on this with an Air BNB Experiance,

We are going into winter in South Africa and we're not sure if we will be getting as many tourists so we would like to bolster our accommodation offering with experiences.

I am an Analog Photographer and have a large amount of old vintage Cameras from 35 mm to Large format and shoot on Wetplate ( a hundred and seventy -year-old photographic process ), I am thinking of offering the opertunaty for guests to choose any of 200 cameras and shooting ,portraits, landscape ,social documentary or fine art images on film and then processing and printing the images in my Darkroom over a two day stay in my accommodation,

We live in a small town and have 3 lovely units a wooden cabin , and two cool gypsy caravans as rental units and we called The Far Side as we are quarkie and full of fun and live on the Far Side of town on a smallholding,

What do you think of the idea , I could even offer a framing course so that the guests could take their hand printed artworks home to hang on their wall as a memory of the experience.

Thanks Graham

Hello @Graham161 👋 and congratulations for achieving Superhost status - again, in such a short space of time!

What do you think has been the secret to your success?

I have to say, that the idea of combining the photography/videography with a home stay makes a lot of sense. How does winter look in South Africa - are the landscapes still as beautiful as in Spring/Summer?

Hey there @Rebecca

Thank you for your replay to my message 🙂

I think the reason i received a second Superhost Status is that i welcome everyone in personally and give them a breakdown of all the cool things are to do and see in our communications before and when they arrive,

I have printed out a breakdown -itinerary of everything to do for a day or a weekend and am there to take the guests on hikes and show them around.

Many of my Guests are on holiday from abroad and want to see how we live and what we get up to , i am building a skatebark for the youth and helping at a boxing gym for the youth and if they like they can join and meet the kids.

I manage the local INFO HUB Info center and have a vast knowledge of the aria and the history that i like to share with guests and can provide a Historical walk around our town of Barrydale, The guest are always welcome to join us at a BBQ or invite us to enjoy a BBQ with them , I have always loved people and am willing to spend time with my guests if they want to know more about the culture or history of my community or the country,

I think the secret is to enjoy what you are doing and be interested in your guests and find out more about them and their adventures and life stories if they keen to share.

Thanks for the head up on doing the photography experience i look forward to hosting them as soon as i know more about how to market them,

i love being creative and sharing my Knowlage as a life long professional photographer , Yes winter is lovely out in the Karoo Part of South Africa as its still warm in the day and its lush and green from the rain as well as crispy and cold in the evening so that you can make a nice fire and get cosy,

There are not as many holiday makers in winter i don't think but i shall be offering many more cool things to do outside like hiking and climbing  mountain biking and trail running for guest to explore our amazing biodiversity and beautiful mountains.

Barrydale in South Africa is a Hidden Gem of a town with so much to offer and is like a secret hide away, its on the Route 62 like the Route 66 in the US ,the more scenic road from Cape Town to Garden Route and well worth stopping over for for a weekend as you will fall in love with the valley and wine farms, distillery, lovely antique shops and mountain hickes and the crystal pools in the Tradouw valley that are the best place to go in the Hot Summer months of Dec till March,

Hope to see you here at the Far Side in person one day.

Regards

Graham

Wow @Graham161

It sounds like you really go above and beyond for your guests, and it must be so rewarding to share your passion for your community and the amazing experiences it offers. I love that you create such a personal connection and have activities lined up for your guests, especially the BBQs and hikes!
