My guest who had 1 decent review booked early December for 1 night on NYE. It said 4 guests but I don't charge over 5 guests. I DIDN'T hear back from him (for some reason, he instant booked) in 3 weeks despite 5 messages to confirm who the guests were and if they were planning to host a party until the day before. He said it was family members and not sure if 3 or 5 people would sleep. I was a bit ticked off because I thought they were going to cancel and now had to reschedule everything to accommodate.
I called Airbnb to ask what I should do and they said they would not do anything because it's the holidays and this guest might have had better things to do than respond to my email so if I cancelled, I would be the one charged as he apologized for not responding earlier... I was surprised by this policy but I'm very close to becoming a super host (fingers crossed) so I didn't cancel his reservation.
I prepared the place like there's no tomorrow, clean as hell, with even a bottle for them and nice touches. The guest called me to check in, it went relatively ok (I wasn't there since it was so last minute that I had made other plans but guided them over the phone and organized parking for them). He never thanked me and I felt like he just owned the place and everything was due to him. I had mentioned prior that the king bed was a bit unstable but still in sleeping conditions (I sleep in it every night). When I came back, they had done a reasonable effort to tidy up (I never found out the real story about how many people slept there) but the bed was broken and he hadn't mentioned it.
I hated the way he communicated with me throughout the whole process. I am torn as tomorrow is the last day to write a review and if I miss the window, I might regret not warning other hosts but on the other hand, maybe it's what to expect when renting your place on NYE... I've also had guests who left my place filthy but they were so pleasurable to host that I didn't really address it in the review.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, as I want to contribute to the community in a way that is constructive for everyone yet fair.
Thanks!
