As I reflect on the wonderful week in San Francisco, I recall my personal journey as a host. One that I began nine years ago. I had just retired from my corporate job of 23 years. I was yearning to do something different that I enjoyed, that I was passionate about. It was then after our holiday that I decided to make our home an Airbnb. I didn’t know where to start, but I had the passion and will, at least to make a fresh start.
In retrospect, as I look back, this continues to be a good decision! It has led me to not only find myself again but to meet so many people from all over the world and to share our home with them. Airbnb opened up the world for me, my family, and our entire team. It continues to surprise us, and pleasantly so, allowing us to earn a living yet make incredible connections and lifelong relationships.
When I think about this journey, I am so grateful to Brian Chesky and the other co-founders of Airbnb for believing in and making a reality their vision that has helped so many like me all over the world. I too have learned to believe in my dreams and give the best in our hosting whilst giving back. I am immensely honored and privileged to represent the voices of my fellow hosts and share matters concerning hosting directly with Airbnb. The highlight for me has been the month of September that saw me reunite with the other Host Advisory Board members from all over the world after meeting on Zoom for about one and a half years. It is inspiring to learn so much from different perspectives and cultures yet to have in common a deep passion and drive for hosting and giving back to our respective communities.
During our time in San Francisco, we had the honor of meeting and interacting with Brian, Airbnb’s CEO. I had the opportunity to share the stage with him and have a Q&A with him. This was truly phenomenal and remarkable. I’m filled with gratitude that I have been able to share this hosting journey that continues to be so gratifying at a personal, family, and community level. A big thank you to all our guests who continue to touch our lives and in turn touching and changing ours for good. #Gratitude. #ThankYou Airbnb ❤️
