New to the Community Center? Introduce yourself here ‌👇

Hello everyone! 😊

Welcome to the Community Center! 👋  I'm @Bhumika , one of the Community Managers for our English Community Center along with my lovely team members @Quincy @Paula @Rebecca  and @Elisa  and we are thrilled to have you join us.

Let's kickstart this thread with a little about us Community Managers:

@Quincy : I'm from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 I have been on the Community Center for 6+ years, and have been an Airbnb Host myself. I love cycling🚲, playing football, and travelling🌏 . I love how dynamic and diverse the Community Center is as we meet Hosts from all around the globe.

@Bhumika 🌍 I was born in Gujarat, India 🇮🇳 , and shifted to Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 last year! 📷 I recently realized my love for photography and aesthetics. I love to capture mundane life and candid pictures. 🌆 When I'm not working, you'll find me binge-watching thriller movies or exploring history.

@Paula : I am from Colombia 🇨🇴 and currently living in British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦. I have a passion for Latin American culture (I love to dance 💃) . I've had the opportunity to visit around 20 countries 🌎 and plan to visit many more. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, especially mountain biking 🚲 and hiking 🏔.

@Rebecca : I'm from Cardiff in Wales originally but being a military child and a veterans spouse, I've travelled and lived in a lot of different places in the UK and Europe. I'm an environmentalist 🌿 and like to minimise my impact on the planet 🌎 as well as volunteering in my local community.  I love sea swimming 🌊 yoga on the beach 🧘‍ and I'm a children's yoga instructor too! 🙌

@Elisa : I was born in Italy 🇮🇹 and as a lover of unique experiences—from exploring the streets of Rome🇮🇹 , Paris 🇫🇷, and Toronto 🇨🇦 to appreciating timeless art and cuisine—I'm here to blend the old with the new.

Now it's your turn! Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from? And is there something special about the location of your accommodation that you'd like to share?

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Warm regards,

Bhumika

You are so sweet, @Paula.

Thank you! It was my first and only dog (foster failure here ✋🏼lol she rescued me though 💕❤️‍🩹).

So my top 3 tips for a great start as a newbie on Airbnb would be (they'll be more as I go):

1. Do your research.

-Be a guest somewhere else a few times (it's a great perspective). I had hotel management and travel experience, so I knew on a high level what I was doing (which is fun to add those premium touches that a concierge would of I needed something I forgot at home), however the personal Airbnb experiences over the past couple of years helped me to understand the inner workings of being a guest at an establishment such as these.

- Read everything that Airbnb provides for you.

There's plenty of clear instructions, tools and guidance, plus I just found the community today so that was exciting.

-Do searches of other Airbnb rentals in your neighborhood (or in the vicinity- city wise). This is not necessarily for you to use for you to ramp up your Airbnb, but more so for valuable insight into other Airbnb comparisons like yours. You get insight into what they offer, how they price, and quickly know what not to do or what guests appreciate via the reviews.

2. Let Airbnb set your main rental price to start out, then add your own reasonable cleaning fees (my pet fees are too low because I didn't set it the way I wanted to, but it's next on the list). Anything I have ever sold, sells.  I do believe pricing for the value is key.

3. Most importantly, and if you do anything BEST, be honest.

-My Airbnb is a spare room in my basement. It was my daughter's room which I updated a little bit. We have one bathroom. None of this is 5-star, but it's charming, clean, and we are hospitable. Our location is the bomb (best neighborhood in the city and we are local to anything and everything including main highways, though it's quiet here with walking for people and dogs near the lake).

Be honest because they're going to see it anyway, and we all know we very much dislike being misled.

-My guests are more comfortable knowing in advance what the situation is. Whether or not it's what they want, at least they aren't facing any surprises when they get here. They know before they book.

(Be sure to highlight the greatest things about your Airbnb or the area as well.)

A Bonus?
Be hospitable.
1. If you're just starting out, but never worked in hospitality, an EXCELLENT ATTITUDE & CUSTOMER SERVICE will go a long way ☺️. Be available to them from the start to the end. Even if you can't rectify something immediately, at least they know your response time kicks and that tells them you care about them.

2. You're always going to miss something.

Don't panic, just make a note for the next time someone books with you.

If you do the above, and take care of safety first, then work down the line on the list making sure it's clean, comfortable, and things work, you should do great.

That's the least we can do for our guests and often those are their top concerns.

Hi Everyone!

My preferred name is DeeDee, although I’ll show up on here under my legal name.  I have been a nurse 👩🏻‍⚕️ since 2012, and I’m currently a travel nurse in the operating room.  I’m currently on assignment in IL, however my primary state of residence is Florida.  I am slowly transitioning into renting out my homes and hope to do it as a means to retire from nursing.  I started renting out my first place in Naples, Florida 🌴 as a mid-term rental.  Recently, I purchased my second home in Clearwater, Florida 🌴 and I recently listed it as a STR.  I hope to learn much from seasoned and novice hosts as I believe learning is a life-long journey.

I love traveling ✈️, trying new restaurants 🍱🥘🍲🍝🍣🍳, playing random games ️🏌🏻‍♀️, ♟️🏐🧩🎰, and listening to my 5 (and three quarters) year old son sing the song “It’s Raining Tacos.”

There’s much to learn regarding how I can optimize my listings as I am managing them remotely with an incredible cleaning crew in both cities.  I also have a handyman in Naples, and an incredible neighbor in Clearwater that look after anything my places need since I’m in another state.  When I I been contracts, I do go home to stay in my places if they are available.

I can’t wait to learn and grow with you all!

Hi @Mamedie0 😊

We are happy to have you here!

It’s wonderful to learn about your journey from nursing to hosting. 😍

As you continue to grow in your hosting journey, what are some of the most rewarding or challenging aspects you’ve encountered so far?

Hi!  Thank you for your kind welcome!

So far, I think trying to figure out how to set rates/fees for my listing has been a challenge…and how to attract a clientele that is respectful of my home.

Past experiences (minus the current one I’m dealing with) have been extremely rewarding, and have led to repeat guests, which I love!  I also enjoy supporting other hosts by using the platform to book stays when traveling.  I love seeing what other hosts are doing with their Airbnbs, and how I can improve my own listings.

Hi I have removed my listing as I have decided to get a full time lodger instead as I'm not too comfortable having different ppl staying at different times as I'm sure that would also annoy my neighbours

Hi Host Community,

Myself Divya Nair. Just listed my place on airbnb in Bangalore. My place is named Arendelle Luxe. I customised my place like how I would like an airbnb should be if I book one myself.

Hi @Divya77

Welcome to the community! 😊

Arendelle Luxe sounds like a fantastic place. I love that you customized it based on your own preferences as a guest. 😍

I am curious, could you share some of the unique touches or personalizations you’ve added to make your Airbnb stand out?

Warm regards🌻,
