Would appreciate if someone could help with the following two questions:
1) Can airbnb alter a booking's departure date without consulting the host first?
2) Is there a clear policy/guidance regarding with happens to possessions left at the property following guests departure?
Thank you
1. Yes. Difficult to comment as you haven't outlined the situation
2. No. Difficult to comment as you haven't outlined the situation. In your case, I would contact the guest remind them about what they have left. Ask them to confirm what they would want done. If they don't respond within whatever time frame you agree. Get rid.
@Denys33 Airbnb can terminate a booking before the check-out date without consulting the host first. This often happens when either the guest or host is suspected of illegal activity such as fraud, and Airbnb has to kill the bookings in order to suspend the account. However, Airbnb can not extend a booking past the check-in date without the host's approval.
I agree with @Helen3 about the general procedure for left items. If there is a cost involved in returning them, you can request pre-payment via: airbnb.com/resolutions . There's no rule directing you to do one thing or other with a lost item, unless that item happens to be a passport - in which case it would be unlawful not to turn it in or return it.
@Helen3 @Anonymous Denys is a guest, not a host. He already has a lengthy thread here outlining the situation. https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Help/Personal-belongings-misappropriated-or-disposed-by-the-host/m-p/1273424#M276379
@Sarah977 OH, that one again. Denys, your questions were exhaustively answered already. Now this looks a bit more like trolling.
I'm sorry you lost your valuables, but there's nothing more this community can offer you, aside from the recommendation I'm sure you don't want to hear - let it go and get better insurance next time you travel with things you can't afford to lose.
Is this the guy who allegedly left thousands of dollars of his property in a foreign country and then went on to another country?
Yep...that's the one 🙂
@Helen3 LOL, and of course the whole thing could have seemingly been avoided if he had worked out some arrangement with his host in terms of storing the stuff/cancelling or not cancelling before leaving, or, if that was impossible, take his small, but very expensive property with him when he left. Sometimes I wonder where all the common sense has gone.
