Stay safe, stay positive - stay connected!

May I wish all my fellow hosts and guests, positive vibes across this important period in many of our lives. A time when so many would normally travel to celebrate Easter or Passover with family and friends. For our agnostic or atheist members, these wishes are also for you....

We may be feeling many emotions such as anxiety, anger, loneliness, frustration and especially grief. Grief on so many levels.....

However, unlike other generations, withABD15BE6-DF8E-4490-A383-2BC6E3D99027.jpeg69AAD047-8BB3-4A12-AC29-02649ACDD266.jpeg the safe use of the internet, we can reach out and enjoy the company of others. We can laugh and cry with family and friends.

So my wish to all of you is: “Stay safe, stay positive and stay connected.”

We’re all in this together......

@Cathie19

It's the little things that make this whole  situation surreal.

Ade and I like to sit outside and have a wine or two when the sun gets to about that point on the horizon and suddenly.....there are no planes, no vapor trails across the sky, almost no vehicles on the road. Human activity has virtually stopped, the silence is almost palpable!

Even the masses of sulphur crested cockatoos seem to have gone north as we sit in our eerie twilight zone.

But Cathie, things are looking positive, the hard yards over the past month do seem to be paying off.

Last night Australia passed a really defining line in the sand .....we have more recovered cases than active cases......

Worldometers 11.04.2020.png

Although China and Iran claim to have passed that milestone I don't know how much credence we can place in their statistics....China seems to have stopped reporting a few weeks ago and, Iran..... who knows there.

But South Korea's statistics I do believe, and apart from small island communities Australia and South Korea appear to be the only countries that have passed that milestone!  We are maybe a week or two away from getting right on top of this. It is to be hoped that we don't let our guard down. Already some authorities are saying South Australia should relax its restrictions as a social experiment....see what happens. I hope we don't do that, at least not until we have some way of fighting this bug!

But Cathie there is a good chance Australia may get out of this with less than 100 total deaths...and that would make all these hard yards so worthwhile!

Thanks for your lovely posts Cathie, stay safe and give my best to Garry.

Cheers.....Rob

I agree @Robin4  that the pendulum is looking good, but it is because of the restrictions, the enforced and more importantly, monitored mandatory 14 day isolation, as well as the state  and country border closers and restrictions. Prior to those procedures being implemented, we were on an upward spiral.

Even in a democratic society the freedom of the individual, during a pandemic, has to be curbed, for the better good of all in that community. If it saves one life, it is worth it.

Lovely post, @Cathie19.

(Very!) lapsed Catholic here, but I still always associate Easter with being a time of resurrection after suffering, and triumph over adversity. A fitting metaphor for the strange, challenging and heartbreaking times we find ourselves living in.

Very best wishes to you and yours this Easter, Cathie. And irrespective of our seed, breed or generation (or religion!) here's to brighter, kinder days ahead for all of us. ❤️

@Susan17  I’ll drink to that, cheers!

(As an aside, as a practising / non-practising Catholic, I actually watched our cathedral’s Good Friday Mass on YouTube, from my lounge chair yesterday morning. It felt uplifting , but weird.....

Sunday Masses are suspended here in Australia so all churches are live streaming or recording in empty churches. Only five people allowed at a wedding, and ten at a funeral.)

@Cathie19, our churches were closed but supermarkets open, figure that one out....truth will out why we are in lockdown, there's much going on behind the scenes that those responsible for protecting us will be doing for the betterment of future generations that should have been addressed over 25 years ago... Missing our lovely Greek, Italian and other European Easter Eggs as they are held up in cargo ships awaiting clearance - Maybe we can all have Mid winter Easter hunts...

Keep Safe & well.

Thanks @Cathie19, I hope you had a peaceful weekend and were able to speak with your family over video call lots of times. The view of the beach is very beautiful–just looking at it brings calm.

I marked the occasion by baking a banana bread with some very ripe bananas. I was missing a couple of the ingredients, so I just added different things in. It was meant to have honey in it, but I didn't have any–so I rummaged in the cupboard and found some nice Canadian syrup which my Canadian friend brought around to cook with at end of last year. Plus, it was meant to have lemon juice in it, but I'm finding it very hard to find lemons, so I used limes and dark sugar instead of light. All together, it was delicious and the hardest part is resisting the temptation to eat the whole thing. I think baking a banana break on Easter Sunday may become a bit of tradition. : )

I hope everyone was able to find a little bit of time to relax this weekend and you are all doing ok.

@Lizzie @Cathie19

Please share your banana cake recipes, it's always nice for others to learn how to bake and try who may not know how to.

 Your posts reminds me of when I used to bake and showed my Japanese teenage boy students how to bake banana and chocolate cakes...

@Jessica-and-Henry0such lovely photos, love flowers as you may be aware.

Easter was spent in the sunshine, out and about.

 I've been entrusted with a friends Queen Anne Dark Chocolate Mint made in NZ Easter Egg supply - they have had them in lockdown in my home!!
