Venice tourist tax - must be paid in cash?

Hi there,

I'm off to Italy for a couple weeks in March and have just booked my second airbnb. The first is in Milan and the second in Venice.  I've received a message from my host that indicates that they will need to see our ID (no problem - I already read about this) and that they will need to collect the tourist tax which is not included in our rate and must be paid exclusively in cash at the moment of check-in.

This is the first I'm hearing of this so I wanted to check around and see if it's legit?

Thanks,

Eryn

it is allowed for hosts to collect Tourist Tax at check-in:
