Would you host this guest again question

Good Morning,

I have a question related to the "Would you host this guest again" question that comes at the end of the review process. I recently hosted a gentleman that was not a good fit for my space for a number of reason. Violated rules, no communication, not very friendly, etc. At the end of the review I selected "No."  My understanding was that when you did this, that guest would not be able to book with you again. When I reviewed previous topics related to this,  that was the general consensus as well.

However yesterday I got a request from him to book this upcoming week. I have instant booking on, so I was grateful it came as a request vs allowing him to automatically book, but I guess I am just confused as to what the "no" button actually does. Although not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, I am required to respond and accept/decline.

Any insight is appreciated.

My understanding is that the "NO" kept him from using instant book. If you do not want to hear from this guy ever again, I would block him. Others more experienced with instant book might be able to shed more light on this for you. I am glad to hear that you left a review about the rule violations and bad communication. I would not want him either!

@Jennifer1897  The impact of an action on one end of the platform upon a conditional result on another is never really fixed in place. At the moment, it appears that selecting "would not host again" blocks that user from Instant Book, but all Airbnb users are free to request unless you've individually blocked their profiles. All of this could change at any minute without notice.

One thing that changes frequently is how/whether previous thumbs-downs get displayed to hosts when the guest requests or books. It may well be totally hidden or removed as a feature in the near future. This is why the written text of the review is so much more important than the stars and the thumbs. I hope you wrote an honest review that provided useful information contextualizing your wish not to host this guest again. But if the guest saw your review and still decided to try and re-book, it makes me wonder if maybe your written review was either dishonest or too subtle for normal people to understand.

@Jennifer1897 His booking came through as a Request because you clicked "Would not host again." Had you clicked "yes" to that question he would have been able to automatically instant book. But Airbnb does not want to restrict bookings, you could have a change of heart. So unfortunately now, you have to take the decline.
