wifi

I had a guest come for a wedding

She arrived Friday night, all was good, we had solid communication which is quite important to me

She sent me a request on Saturday asking if we had a wifi charger or if we could move our router, the latter of which was most inconvenient.

I told her it didn't look good for that option and I would get back to her.

Her boyfriend had a zoom meeting

I went to work that night, in a busy restaurant where I simply can not use my phone

She contacted me again Sunday morning for an update

I told her sorry "no can do"

She asked me to extend her departure time so her boyfriend could go somewhere that he could use stronger wifi

I should say my husband has on numerous occasions used zoom here at the house

Her review was mixed

While she enjoyed everything else about her stay she was annoyed that I didn't get back to her sooner

Honestly she was at a wedding and it just got away from me

I do leave my my husband and my cell numbers clarifying to reach him at night time

She twice gave me 3 out of 5 stars (one for communication) and a 4 out of 5

Taking away my 5.0 rating, a little annoying but its now still a 4.97

But she was quite irrational in her comments

I was completely unaware that zoom for guests was an issue, it never came up before

Am I oversensitive or was this a little harsh?

@Judy819  When I started hosting in March and offered a dedicated workspace, I was worried about my Wifi being strong enough in my basement studio apt. You see, I do lots of Zoom meetings, so I figured remote workers do too. I purchased a Netgear extender, which is close to the bsmt apt without having to move my router. It was only $19.99, plugs into an outlet, and works like a charm.

On another note. I thought your guest’s response was nice, factual, and not irrational at all.

By "wifi charger' you probably mean "wifi extender" ?

If your WiFi signal is strong enough in the house, then maybe the issue is with the equipment the guest (boyfriend) was using. But anyway, now it is too late to make changes. Next time offer the guest a seat next to the router during the Zoom meeting ;>)

I am afraid it is an issue nowadays as a lot of guests seem to expect to conduct Zoom meetings and for an Airbnb accommodation to offer the same level of WiFi as an office. I experienced something similar not too long ago.

Guest says she's been trying to video conference but the connection is not great. I go to her room to check. I check on two different devices and everything is working great. She admits it might be a problem with her device and will check with her IT department. She never mentions it again (she stays for a month) and I can constantly hear her on video calls because she is loud. In hindsight, I should have doubled checked with her, but no one else in the house was experiencing problems. Plus, the previous guests never had problems, nor did the one after...

Still, in her review, she said the WiFi was not good because her room was at the top of the house. Not true. my room is also at the top of the house two meters from hers and the WiFi worked perfectly the whole time she was here. I also have the WiFi extenders.

I don't know what kind of property you have, but if it's old, e.g. has thick walls, this can affect the signal. It could work amazingly in some spots and not so great in others. I bought the TP-LINK extenders, which are a bit more expensive but had the best reviews, and are supposed to be better than the Netgear ones.

It's extremely rare that guests complain about the WiFi and I work from home, do Zoom or other video conferencing calls and don't have any problems. You will always get the occasional guest who complains about something though, even if it is working fine.
