See your guests' star ratings

Screen Shot 2017-10-16 at 15.58.00.png

Hello everyone,

We have heard from conversations in the CC that you would like to know more about guests that book your listing via Instant Book. I therefore wanted to let you know about a new feature which allows you to see how other hosts have rated the guests coming to stay at your place. You’ll be able to see both their overall rating and a breakdown.

If you’re uncomfortable with a reservation on Instant Book at any time, you can cancel penalty-free. And if you ever rate a guest at 3 stars or below, they won’t be able to instantly book with you again.

To find out more, take a look at this blog article.

We hope these updates are helpful. Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,

Quincy

I click on my guest's profile photo, then on the X amount of reviews, click on whoever hosted them, and I look for my guest's review to that host.  Sometimes it is easy if its within a year but very long scrolling down when going back 3 years, but I do find them.  I do not see what ratings they left for that host but I read what's publicly writen by the guest I'm about to host.  VERY importantly, I NEVER critisize guests if they break the rules.  Instead, I play nice and keep a low profile, and give them their 1-star in House rules.  If I ever mention anything bad before they send in their review they will low rate me for sure as their revenge.  So keep it cool, my friend, send in your 1-star review, they don't read it until they send you one or after their time has expired... and there you go.

Really like the new process that lets me see the reviews of guest prior to my acceptance on Instant Book

It gives me a sense of security, as to who I am inviting into my house. It can be a bit worrisome inviting strangers into a BnB!

Fortunately, all have been lovely.

If it is instant how are you seeing reviews before they book?

Wonderful idea!  Thank you Airbnb for this reassurance of who will come to stay at our place. After all, it is an important feature since we are welcoming them in our own private environment. Since our guests can read about us, it is only logical that we can read about them. Another added security from Airbnb!

I do agree.    I’ve had a few guest, found out they were related and left bad reviews knowing they’d get money back or free nights.   Plus the untrue stories they put, bad rates that hurt us and nothing we can do

This and the blog article are not clear. Does this mean guests can now see how we rate them as well?

Hi Quincy,

I have never felt that IB is 'dangled' before me to incourage bookings!! It's a convienence.

I actually seldom look at star ratings. I enjoy the experience of meeting a guest without anothers 'star' determination.

However, keep going Airbnb, great job.

I have back to back bookings on Christmas day; this isn't a problem as I have cleaners booked in and I will be around to help as well so we have 4 hours to get the house ready for the new guests checking in. My concern is that the booking checking in only has a photo of an empty desk and no references. It does say that they have a verified email address & phone #, but I don't have access to this information. How can I verify that they are legit? ; Thanks, Billy

I would have messaged them requesting they out a clear front facing photo of themselves on their profile. I always request their full name and the names of any guests and towns they live in. If they do not add a photo I would call Airbnb as this is one of their requirements. I also tell guests they can not check in unless they verify their ID with airbnb per my house rules.

Yes to all of this. We need to rally the hosts. I'm a super hosts, Directly expert, and have spoken to city council on behalf of air bnb hosts and this is a slap in the face. I should not be forced into using IB to see ratings. If guests can see our ratings, we should see theirs. Plain and simple. I encourage all hosts to post online about this, tell your airbnb friends, and get the word out. This is so ridiculous and s easily remedied. It's time to care about your hosts, air bnb!!

@Quincy I have IB enabled and always have but i cant see the star ratings of guests anymore. I know i could after you first posted about this feature but now it is gone.

I think it is wrong of Airbnb to restrict important information from all hosts. All hosts should be able to read what other hosts have experienced with a potential guest.

I turned IB on to see if it helps during the low season. I have a few reservations that I may not have had. I also have my cancellation on strict and have some good questions for the potential guest. No weirdos so far.

---> That's how I look at most guests, like cousins. And you know, some of those cousins are kooks.

Did they do away with this feature? I can no longer see the star reviews. I was able to up to about one week ago. I have Instant Book on. What happened to the stars?

Just so that everybody understand everybody can see guest ratings.. perhaps not a a glance with the new feature but still you can by just going to the persons profile.

My question however is. If a host will not be penalized for canceling an instant booking... when will they be penalized? As far as i know part of maintaining your super host status is not canceling a reservation.
