Take part in an Airbnb Research Study

----------Update July 4th, 2018 – this research study has now finished. Please keep an eye out for future opportunities to take part----------

Hello everyone,

We know many of you like to provide feedback on Airbnb features. Your thoughts and opinions help us make important improvements, and build smarter. That’s why we’d like to invite you to weigh in on how guest reservations should look in the future. Sound like fun?

The process is simple: if you’re a current Airbnb host, have a desktop or laptop computer and 15 minutes to spare, you can give it a whirl! We’ll collect feedback from 18 hosts and update this post once submissions are full.

The specifics:

We’ll provide a plugin to install in your browser that will record your screen, and your computer will need a built-in microphone so we can record your voice. As you follow instructions on your screen, we’ll show you our new concepts, and you’ll give feedback by speaking your thoughts aloud.

Ready to try it? Let’s go.

Instructions

  1. Wait until you have 15 minutes to spare and are in a quiet, distraction-free place.
  2. Choose one of the three guest reservation experience versions below.
  3. Go through the instructions step by step, on the top-right of your screen.
  4. Share your feedback out loud. Don't be shy--we want to hear your thoughts! Your feedback will help us understand what does and doesn’t work for you.
  5. When you’re done answering each set of questions, click “begin this step” and then “next” to go to the next step.

Pick ONE of the three versions below:

Thanks for your help! Your feedback helps us make Airbnb better for all hosts.

Did anyone manage this? I tried, Lizzie (tagging still not possible), four times, to upload the results and got "upload failed" error messages. (Tried to post the screenshot here for you, but pictures still not possible.) Finally hit "Quit" after the four tries and was thanked for my unreceived feedback. Did get someone from Usertesting in Chat, and have reported it there. Chat rep speculates that I should have disabled my anti-virus protection first.

Thanks for letting me know @Lawrene0. I'm just going to talk to the team about this and will get back to you.

Bit tricky to do when the World Cup is on.

Would be nice if AirBnb dealt with some of the existing issues before getting stuck into new ones.

I think you could fit it in during half time @David126 🙂

Thanks, Lizzie. If I never get to say it in the research, at least I will tell you here, and please pass it on, that I think the Version 1 timeline would be great. I like it very much.

(Could not reply to your reply - kept getting "an unexpected error has occurred". So adding this to the general thread.)

Aw thank you @Lawrene0, it is great to hear you like the first version. 🙂

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties in replying as well. I am trying to get to the bottom of why this is happening on certain occasions. Did you experience this every time?

Tagging and photo errors happen every time, and it has been ongoing. Being unable to reply to replies is happening to me for the first time today. I was unable, again, to reply to your reply with this message, but, again, was able to reply within the main thread via "join the conversation" after refreshing the page. Error message is "An Unexpected Error has occurred."

Hello @Lawrene0,

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, unfortunately your video didn't go through. As the Chat rep mentioned it could have been because of your anti-virus software, this is most like the reason.

All is not lost though, I have passed your feedback here regarding the errors you were getting over to that team which I am sure will be useful to them, plus I have shared your support for design 1 which is fantastic.

Thank you so much for spending your time on this. Enjoy the rest of your day and speak to you soon. 🙂

The team contacted me as well, Lizzie, and mentioned disabling the anti-virus protection and also connecting using an ethernet cable. So it may just be that my wifi/mifi is too ridiculously rural for the research software. Thanks for the follow-up. It is working well for others?

Does not work on iPad. Suggests 'using a computer'

I would license some different software to do usability...

Thanks @Pete28 for the extra feedback here. I love that at the same time of providing feedback on the designs we are also helping the actual study process too. 🙂

(at) Lizzie- I tried to decide what version to use, but upon clicking on #1 it only said we need your feedback. So, I don't know what version to pick and sounds like it's not going to work anyway. BTW, I'm rarely able to reply, as the other's said. Before, I would reply to someone by doing (at) Lizzie( now the symbol is invalid HTML).

BTW, when are they going to implement voluntary dual factor authentication so I don't get hacked again? This is standard. It was a big mess that took months, and months, and months to fix. My account is still messed up. They say I can start a new account but I will lose my SH status. Not helpful! I'm my experience, they won't take responsibility for messes they cause unless forced. I don't even know if they could transfer my account to a new page w/o a glitch, but I bet my nephew could.

After I was hacked, I spent hours rebuilding my listings and changing the settings. Then the "Trust and Safety Specialists" took down my photos, changed my settings back to the hackers settings(which later caused me to get a 4 review),  put back the hackers photos including photo #2 that had his/her email address on it, etc. When I complained to Sid in T&S, he said they couldn't be held responsible for accuracy. Oh my lord!

When the guest found out that I had been hacked he wanted to change his review. He only got a call explaining that it was against ABB morals and ethics to change a review. LOL. I had to take legal action to get ABB to remove that review, one from and extortionist, and to get money they owed me. Unbelievable!

Hello @Ann10,

I hope you are good. It is great to hear you wish to provide your feedback on this.

In terms of the different versions you can pick one of the three included above to provide feedback on, it is your choice. Once on the page, you will be prompted to add you email address and then it will guide you through what you need to do. Many other hosts have been able to take part (via the instructions above), so I have high hope it will work for you. 🙂

I am sorry to hear about the troubles you have had with your Airbnb account and the extra time you have had to spend on it. I hope this will all be sorted out soon, it does sound like you have been speaking with a number of different people from our team. You clearly put a lot of care and effort into hosting your guests, so I am sure this will come across on your listing even with the difficulties you have been experiencing. I wish you all the best with this.

In terms of the @ mention function here in the CC, I am not sure if you have seen my updates about this, our Tech Team are currently working to fix the difficulties we are having with this function. I am hoping it will be back up and running soon.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding taking part in the research. Fingers and toes crossed this will work for you. 🙂

Thanks,

Lizzie

At Lizzie- Thanks for the update. I was hoping to get an idea about what each survey was about before picking one.  Are we supposed to pick one blindly? Can you please ask them and let us know if and when they will implement voluntary dual factor authentication? It's de rigueur these days.
