When will Airbnb return my payment?

Hi,

I booked an apartment that doesn't fulfill my needs. I want to cancel the reservation (the cancellation policy is 24 hours before arrival).
In case I find another place to stay, I want to know when Airbnb will return me money or do they transfer the payment to another host?
Also, when I enter the credit card number while booking, is Airbnb taking money at that moment or they wait until my check-in and than charge the stay?

@Sara145 you are charged at the exact moment you book, not when the check-in happens.

Refund time varies greatly. People usually report being refunded in the same day for PayPal/Apple Pay and from 4-7 with conventional credit cards.
