long term guest of 4 mos is adding 2 nights to a reservation.

My long term guest of 4 months was supposed to check out today and is still here.  I texted him and asked why he was still here and he stated that he was now staying until Friday the 19th of August (reservation is until the 17th)  He has to be the one to change the reservation, correct?  or is there a way that I can do this myself as a host?

do what Andrew suggested and also call Airbnb. I had a guest that tried to extend stay then credit card did not go through. Airbnb contacted them and told them they needed payment by 9 am or they would have to vacate ad be responsible for days stayed. he left before I had to call police and AIrbnb compensated me for the extra days.
