security deposits

Hi,

I accepted a booking without charging a damage / security deposit. Since then, I've had a group of guests do substantial damage to the place. So now I want to charge a damage / security deposit for this group, in case. I understand there's no way to do this since I didn't do it right away, right? Is cancelling and re-scheduling the booking the only way to go? The guest is completely open to this and willing to work with me; just haven't broached the specifics with him until I know for sure. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

If you cancel the reservation you will incur the superhost penalty - so if you are working towards Superhost status, don't cancel.  I would probably let it pass with this reservation which would be the easy route, and change my listing to include the damage deposit on future reservations.  UNLESS you really want to get it on this particular reservation - and then I would call to ask if Airbnb Customer Service can help.

Thanks, Debi! I was debating this very thing, so your message really helps!
