Event Space

Is airbnb a good source to list an event space?  Has anyone ever done that?

Hi @Lisa8023 😊

thank you for asking this question here, it's really interesting!

Do you have an event space? How big is it? 😍

I'm tagging a few experienced hosts to see what they think about it: @Hayley185@Shannon1151@Tara0@Till-and-Jutta0@Lorina14@Karen4131 and @Frances3408.

Thank you in advance everyone!

Warm regards 🌻,

As a superhost you will know Airbnb is a platform for short term accommodation not for advertising events spaces @Lisa8023

why do you think you can use it for event venues ?

Hi @Lisa8023 I doubt it's the right platform to advertise an event space, since Airbnb is a platform dedicated to providing overnight accommodation. I guess you might get an occasional enquiry, but you will still have to offer bedrooms - I doubt you can create a listing with zero bedrooms!!

If you had a listing that provided accommodations and a space to have events (ie attached barn, large room, yoga studio) then you may be able to list it on Airbnb. You will have to mindful that Airbnb does have a no party clause (for hosts and their neighbors protection). I can see some coaches or wellness practitioners or anyone who had a weekend class or maybe a seminar class for a small number of guests on a specialized topic could be interested. You will have to check Airbnb Terms and Conditions for more details.

I do remember going to an event in Florida where the event was held at an Airbnb at a mansion, it held 60-80 seated in their main room  and there were rooms that hosted the guest speakers upstairs. There was a pool, arcade, bowling, patio with sun loungers, movie room and all. It was a nice event for a weekend. The hosts did have to move the furniture out into a truck, set up their rented seats/tables and put all furniture back in the exact configuration after. This would be made clear in a contract with the hosts as some hosts would not like to have their furniture removed for there is a potential for damage. Additionally the host needs to have the guests provide liability insurance.

If your space is only an event space with no accommodations, then this is not a suitable platform for you. I am sure there are a number of places to list event spaces for rent but I don’t know any off the top of my head.

@Lisa8023. Hi Lisa, do you mean an onsite event at your Airbnb?

I havent done that but I would contact my local Tourism Office to see how to gain access to their online and print marketing. You need to consider public liability insurance amongst other issues including voiding your own home insurance.

Personally we have access to a great local Bowling Club as well as Community Centre if any guests want to hire rooms. Weddings are popular here as there is lots of countryside, wineries, restaurants etc so I dont try to compete for event business, rather happy to promote them, especially those without accommodation.

There are Airbnb listings which do both here but they usually have commercial licenses so not really pure STR. The no party rule can be an issue, as mentioned by @Lorina14
