Extra fees

Extra fees

as a Host, where or how do you charge a Guest an extra fee for excessive electrical use? I see some have it as a statement in their booking notes and charge a daily amount IF they go over. How do you do this after they’ve paid?

It must be mentioned in your listing what the costs for elektricity is (for exampe: the price per KwH) and how the (extra) usage is measured/metered. The guest can be charged for the costs via the resolution centre.

@Seeger0  You may request that the guest pay an additional amount after the stay via https://airbnb.com/resolutions . But if the guest doesn't want to pay the fee, there's no guarantee that Airbnb will mediate on your behalf. In this case, all you'll get for your trouble is a lousy review.

I've stayed in an Airbnb with a similar policy before as a guest, even sent the host a picture of the electric meter at checkout. I didn't get charged anything, but I found that step to be a rather clunky and awkward finish to an otherwise OK stay. Even though the meter issue was disclosed in the listing, it occurred to me later on that guests have no control over - or foreknowledge of - how energy efficient the home features are. All I could do was keep a close eye on the meter, which is not exactly a fun and relaxing way to spend a vacation.
