Fee for more than 1 pet

My Airbnb is pet friendly because I love pets and also to be more competitive with other Airbnbs in the area that don’t, but I found really problematic the fact that the platform doesn’t have a way to set a fee per day or at least weekly PER pet . I do not charge extra fee per person as others do but Its fair and reasonable to charge different  fee for one dog 3 days stay than for 3 dogs one month stay, I  found the extra cleaning is expensive and hard to collect afterwards. Any input?

Agree with you. Pet fees should be set at per pet/night basis. This is one of the things that Vrbo has figured out and does.

Some Hosts explain on their listing the pet fee is for 1 pet for a max of XXdays. If you accept more than one pet, or you want to charge a higher fee for longer stays, you will have do process the guest payment before arrival via the resolution center. You will have to make this clear on your listing and in your House Rules and be sure to stay on top of that though, as many guests won't want to pay the addl fees. I would message them after booking confirming the number of pets and explaining they will receive a request to pay via the resolution center and it must be paid before arrival.

Hello @Silvina120 and @Joan2709

I don't know if you have the same thing available for the US but when I go onto my calendar to set pet fees I have several fee options to choose from:

If I click on the "per stay" just under the amount to be entered, I see the different options that you can tick for your listing concerning the pet fees - with the all important one - fee per pet per day!

Please let us know,

All the best

Oh my goodness @Silvina120 ! @Joelle43 is right! I just checked it.  They must have changed this! Thank you for finding this Joelle!  👏🎉

I wonder if it changed with the Winter software 2024 they released to the platform recently? Why can't they tell us when they do this stuff! 😠 This is just like them removing the accessibility photos without tell Hosts as they were changing step-free access! @Mandrake-And-Karen0.

I'm going to mention this to my clients that allow pets and get them to change. For those who have monthly stays only this is awesome! For those that have shorter stays just keep in mind that it will increase your price per night alot if you use the per pet/per night option, as Airbnb rolls the pet fee into the nightly rate and doesn't show as a separate line item on the reservation.

Thank you so much Joelle!!!

***UPDATE***

I just changed the pet fee to per pet option of $75 and it does appear to be working...I forgot that Airbnb spreads the pet fee over the nights of the reservation:

Example - Pet fee is set as $75 per pet on Calendar

Nightly rate $350

Guest reservation is 3 nights

Guest adds 1 pet

New nightly rate is $375 ($75 pet fee spread out over 3 nights)

Relieved to see that you have the same settings and yes I think it will be a game changer for many!  Well, if only they knew about it of course😉  What else don't we know about??  "That is the question" as Sherlock would say😃

Joan, did you hear about the change in the cancellation policy where hosts can now choose a 2 week free cancellation period which finally gives hosts a midway point between the 5 day and the 1 month one.  I jumped for joy when a host in Morocco spoke of this as have given numerous feedback for years on the need for another cancellation policy but it was short lived unfortunately as it's only available for some countries and not Europe or US (their two biggest markets) Moan, groan😮

Why Such a great idea but only for a select few it would seem.

@Joelle43

Oh my goodness again!  🙄 😠

No, had not heard about it! I'm sure they want to "test" it without impacting their largest markets, but c'mon!

Hosts have been asking for this for awhile and Vrbo has already offered this with a  seasonal cancellation policy.

You're right...what else don't we know about? I guess we'll just have to keep checking the cancellation policy area to see if it shows up. 🙄

I'll create another thread about the Pet Fee, as I'm sure many Hosts are not aware. Thanks so much again Joelle!
