I have recently went from long term rental of my home to str so I have had a landlord policy on this home with State Farm for many years. Would I need to change this now to a str insurance or is this the same thing as what I already have?

You really need to discuss this with your insurance agent. 

Different states may have different requirements as well. 

Do definitely get the type of policy and coverage you need.
