I bought a vacation home in Southport NC back in 2022 - I planned on renting it when I was not able to use it. Before I purchased the home I called and spoke to a city employee responsible for short term rentals. I was told that I did not need to register because the city was redoing their permitting process. Fast forward to today and I am being told that person was wrong and that I have to shut down immediately.
Is this happening to anyone else in Southport NC? Has anyone been successful at fighting zoning regulations?
@Joel1420 Have you reached out to the local realtors in the area; offered to hire them to act as a consultant to navigate the new legislation?
Realtors have always been actively involved in STR rentals, seem to have the inside track on how to meet legislative criteria while advising owners on rental income….
