Is it normal for airbnb to deduct taxes from your booking rather than the host handle it themseves?

income tax: no

@Glenn304  Are you a host or a guest? I don't see a listing on your profile as a host. 

As Mike and Jane said, they collect and remit taxes in some places, and not in others.

But taxes are not "deducted" from a host's payout, nor deducted from a guest's booking- to the contrary, they are added to the guest's total price.
