US Virgin Islands ( St. Croix) hotel tax

We are quite new to hosting and have found the 12.5% hotel/transient tax payment confusing.  The help sections on AIRBNB are confusing and say that AIRBNB May pay taxes.  Our property manager said they do not but if that is the case then the numbers we are being paid do not seem to include taxes.  We read a 2017 announcement that AIRBNB had an agreement with USVI government to pay taxes directly to them.

Anyway called AIRBNB yesterday and they said that they did not remit taxes.  I am not sure the customer service person understood the question.

Can anyone point me to the definitive answer and if AIRBNB does not then why do the numbers not add up

@Martin3875,

I suggest that you contact the local tax assessor in St. Croix to get first hand information about any tax remittance agreement that they may have with Airbnb.

Don't just believe what I say, check the Airbnb Help Center
