location and renovations

Hi 😉

My name is Björk and I am starting my airbnb in Iceland and I have some questions that I am hoping you all can help me with.

Fist of all when I was starting my listing my address was always wrong. I got a note that ,,sorry we can not find that address" (or close to that) and insisted that my address was in a town close by (30 km away). I could not fix this and thought to myself that I could fix  contact airbnb and report it ?? but I can not find any email address that would look in to this ?

Second... we are renovating the place and we want to be finished by 1st of mars. Can we close of the days in february on the booking side and how do we do that?  We also do not have many pictures only 2-3 rooms because of the renovation and we will add them as soon as the rooms are ready.  Do you think that it will have negative results on booking ?

Best regards

Björk

Hi @Björk5 😊

Welcome to the Community Center, and thank you for posting this here!

How did you come up with the idea of hosting?

Did you check Jim and Caroline's comment? Did you connect with them?

Regarding your location, I suggest calling Customer Support! Do you need their contact details?

Warm regards, 🌻

Hi,

yes, you can block dates.

But I prefer the other way around, I’ve chosen ”Dates unavailable by default” as my calendar setting, and then I open only the dates I want to be open.

I also recommend that you set the price unreasonably high for dates you have blocked. This as it is a common problem that blocked dates are ”magically” opened - and hosts receive booking requests for dates when the cannot/don’t want to host.

And whatever you do, don’t use Instant Booking. Let guests send requests to book, which gives you 24 hours to decide if the guest is likely to a good fit. If you allow Instant Booking and get a booking that doesn’t work for you, and you cancel the booking, you’ll be fined.

Good luck!
