How can you be a superhost if you are an absent landlord? Surely super and host do not fit if you are met with a keysafe on the outside of a wall and a welcome note/bottle of wine/etc.
I welcome Airbnb's words to return to their original ethos ie human to human communications and aiding guests to live like a local in people's homes.
To make this happen, why not restrict superhost status to those hosts who are on site and who do genuinely support/look after thier guests. Or, have another status, as I do fully recognise that some hosts who live off site do provide excellent support to their guests.
You have a lovely place @Sharon1154 and sure you provide guests with an amazing stay.
However, I can't agree with your comment. I have stayed with quite a few hosts who host remotely who definitely provided a superhost experience.
It doesn't matter whether you are there to greet a guest in person or not, what matters is, is the accommodation as described, does the host communicate well and are there those small personal touches that make such a difference.
I couldn't care less whether I have self check in or am met in person. You can look after your guests whether you are on the premises or not.
@Sharon1154 Thank you for coming right out and saying what a lot of home-share hosts think about remote hosts like me. 😄
I naturally agree with @Helen3's position on the issue. I would love for you to mark it as the Featured Answer so other hosts searching this topic find it.
@Ann72 "I would love for you to mark it as the Featured Answer so other hosts searching this topic find it."
I agree, but I doubt there are very many hosts who would have a petty issue such as this on their minds. 😉
@Colleen253 You are my spirit animal. I certainly thought that but it looks like sour grapes when the person being bashed makes a point like that.
@Sharon1154 “I do fully recognise that some hosts who live off site do provide excellent support to their guests”.
That’s the relevant nugget right there.
It simple really. Only hosts who excel at customer service are going to achieve Superhost (for the most part...the program has its flaws), regardless of being on site or remote. Isn’t that what matters?
@Sharon1154 Superhost status is not granted by a panel of experts sagely analyzing your hosting skills. It's just squirted out of an algorithm. If you think it means anything, egg's on your face.
One thing that is consistent, though: the internet is teeming with Superhosts who are deeply invested in the idea that a thumb should be put on the scale to ensure that they attain or maintain their status while others maybe don't. They often present incredibly predictable ideas about how their notion of Superhost will function in their idea of the perfect system - and what a surprise, it always turns out to dovetail perfectly with the system that suits their own agenda and fits their exact concept!
