How I will pay the taxes?

Hello!
I'm a host since two months and it's going better than I expected. In my town I can earn £4000 without paying the taxes but at the moment I have booked my room for the next two months. I wanted to ask how is going to be - I'll have to declare the amount in my council and then pay or it's all automatically and I'll be charged on airbnb website!? Thank you for any advice!

You will file a self assessment form where you declare all the income, then select the 'rent a room exemption'.  Whatever is earned over the exemption amount will be subject to whatever your usual income tax rate is and you will be sent a bill by HMRC.

Hi - in the UK the limit is rising to £7500 for earnings including letting a room in your home from 6 April 2016 - if you currently complete a tax return (self assessment) then as long as you are under £7500 you do not need to declare it.
