This applies only to AIRBNB hosts in the El Paso County of Colorado as far as I know.
The Assessor's Office of El Paso is considering legislating an increase in property taxes of AIRBNB homes up to 4 time the current rate. In addition, they are requiring an annual license to the tune of about $120.
The Assessor's office is meeting with constituents on Sep 5, 10, 12 at Centennial Hall 530P-830P located at 200 South Cascade Avenue. Please attend so we can show a united front, and ask questions, which should include:
1. Will they also tax all homes with small home businesses, such as Mary Kay, Amway, etc. If not, why only AIRBNB?
2. Will the quadrupling of property tax be on the entire home, or just a percentage based on size of AIRBNB room?
Please feel free to inform others. I am writing to as many hosts as I can but there are over 300 hosts in this area alone so it is an impractical feat.
