We have had Super Host status for over a year and a half. Earlier this year we decided to renovate 2 rooms and had to cancel 2 guests that had booked long in advance. We gave them over 40 days notice of the cancellation. This is the first time we have had to cancel. Seems a little harsh to lose our status. Also when we lost our status it didn't give specifics on why we lost out status-I assume this is why.
@Cara91 yes that is why and even one cancelation is enough to lose it and you wont be able to get it back for a year. In the future when you need to cancel a reservation for a justified reason always call Airbnb and have them cancel for you penalty free.
It might sound reasonable to you, @Cara91, but cancelled bookings are the antichrist of Airbnb, and for good reason.
If somebody cancels on me, I'm rightly hacked off. It's an emotional thing and turns you off a brand.
The people you biffed are likely to mention this to their friends (or anyone who'll listen). It's brand-damaging, hence the punishment.
Please note Cancellation Policy has changed and updated July 1st
Lizzie informed of this update in her thread Building and Improving the Superhost Program
Cancellation policy
As part of our effort to make sure Airbnb programmes are built to meet the needs of all hosts, we’re also updating our cancellation requirement. Previously, we required that Superhosts have zero cancellations, but for hosts with an extremely high volume of bookings across multiple listings, that standard is impractical. To make the programme more fair for high-volume hosts, we’re now allowing one cancellation per 100 tripsbooked over the past year, which means a cancellation rate of less than 1% across all of your listings. It’s important to note that we still take cancellation as seriously as ever. Over the past five years, the Superhost community has worked hard to earn the trust of their guests and we will continue to reward that trust by recognising the most reliable hosts with Superhost status.
The change is noted in Progress: Opportunities: Super Host
Cancellation rate Target is now displayed <1.00%
Though it hasn't helped Cara due to 2 cancellations; re: 'the antichrist of Airbnb', the devil is in the detail: Imperative to note especially if you're giving advice to other Hosts on CC.
@Alon1 yes I know but she has already 2 and is not near 100 bookings that is why I said even one is enough to lose it. I never said that one is all it takes in general, I was talking specifically for her situation 🙂 Also my main priority in the response was to inform her on how to handle cancelations when they are justified (as I believe this qualifies for extenuating circumstances) so that when she doesn't have an excuse and just wants to cancel she can use that one cancelation in a hundred.
I did note: 'Though it hasn't helped Cara due to 2 cancellations;...'
And as far as I understand it one cancellation per 100 tripsbooked over the past year
Means any number below 100 would be just as valid.
In short, we are entitled to 1 cancellation per annum.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm tagging Lizzie for clarification.
@Alon1 the way I understood it is that if a host has already over 100 bookings he can cancel one over a year, that would make it less than 1%. What if I cancel a reservation and I have less than 100 bookings that year? Who can guarantee that they will have over 100 bookings per year so that they can freely cancel one before they reach the number? Maybe I am wrong though 🙂
I don't believe you're right.
Please check Progress: Opportunities: Super Host
Cancellation rate Target is now displayed <1.00%
I believe this is global not just on my Progress.
I take it to mean 1 Cancellation up to 100 bookings per annum.
In other words, if someone has 200 bookings per annum they will be permitted 2 cancellations; likewise, 300 bookings = 3 cancellations.
That's what 1% means.
Let's wait till tomorrow for Lizzie to clarify.
FINALLY!
I hosted 148 groups in the last 12 months and as I understood, I am permitted to cancel 1 reservation in the next 12 months.
So, If I cancel today then I can cancel again July 16th next year.
If someone hosted less than 100 trips in the last 12 months then, like before, he is not allowed to cancel ( except for extenuating circumstances and if he has IB turned on and he doesn't feel comfortable to host particular guest)
Remember - it is designed for high volume hosts (hotels, agencies...) not for small hosts.
@Branka-and-Silvia0 exactly, that was my point, you already have over 100 bookings and you are free to cancel once. What if you canceled now and you didn't have already 100 bookings.. that would make it more than 1%. And asfar as I understood you could cancel again July next year if you again have more than 100 stays in the year since the cancelation.
@Branka-and-Silvia0 Where did you get this information that you can cancel if you have more than 100 trips per year?
Airbnb has this 1% cancellation rule. But is that true that you can cancel 1 booking penalty free if you have more than 100 trips booked in a year?

Both the changes to our cancellation and review requirements will take effect on the 1 July quarterly Superhost assessment. We’ll also be updating hosting dashboards at this time to reflect this new criteria.
@Branka-and-Silvia0 Thanks for the clarification. It helps. Now try to make up one hundred bookings after a cancellation 🙂
