Taxes British Columbia

Hello,

I am looking for information regarding collection and remitance of PST and MRDT in British Columbia. I have tried to speak with AirBnB on numerous occasions with no clear answeres as of yet. Do they collect and remit to CRA on the home owners behalf? I do know I collect the GST, How do es everyone do this, Is it just added into the nightly rate or seperate? Thank you for your help!

Hi, I would like to join the conversation with the same question. the AirB&B information states that they do collect and remit the tax themselves, but I see no evidence on the quotation infomation sent to guests. Dont want to be stuck with a tax bill at the end of the year.

Hi Dane,

I am fairly new to Airbnb hosting and have been struggling to find a solid answer to this myself. I am in British Columbia and was told by CRA that if renting on a platform such as Airbnb the taxes were covered. That being said I still don’t feel secure with that answer since I haven’t seen any evidence of it being collected. Super frustrating not knowing!

Hi, I am new to hosting, and I too am not sure about taxes.  I thought that AirBnB collects all the taxes and you do not have to worry about it.  I found a link on Turbo tax that explains in detail.  Please scroll down when you access the link.

Hi everyone!

I'm a Superhost and have been Airbnbing since 2020.  I collect and remit both GST and Municipal Accommodation Tax.  I do not rely on Airbnb to do so.  If I recall when setting up taxes, there is a check box on your account that allows for the host to remit taxes, but you must agree that you will remit.  When this is the case, Airbnb will pay the taxes to the host, so the host can remit.

The turbotax link is very informative, detailed and accurate.  If you're still not comfortable, you may want to consult a tax accountant.

Hope this helps clarify.

Happy Hosting😊
