I need to get personal details from a host as I have to take him to the small claims court to get my money back. The house he posted on Airbnb was not the house he took us to and it was disgusting. It was filthy, the oven was unusable it was so dirty and the mattress was revolting, and the place was dangerous with broken plug sockets and loose wires.
Did you not contact the host and Airbnb as it advises on your booking confirmation and confirm that the place you were at was not the one posted as a listing?
They would have then refunded you and helped you find somewhere else.
I am assuming you didn't stay somewhere that you describe was filthy and dangerous?
If that was the case, why didn't you take pictures and contact Airbnb immediately? Airbnb would have immediately issued a refund and would have even helped to "re-home" you if possible.
You pay Airbnb when you confirm and finalize payment for your reservation. Airbnb holds onto your money and pays the host on the day AFTER the check-in date. This is to give the guest 24hrs to report hosts if necessary and stop payment from Airbnb to host IF the listing is false or was inaccurately described or not up to the guest's expectations and the guest feels they were scammed and don't want to stay there. So with this kind of safeguard in place for guests, I guess I'm having trouble understanding why you are taking the small claims court route to get your money back.
I can't understand why Airbnb don't use the technology already available and build into smart phones to handle check-in and geoposition them in real time, in other words, if you not at the right location it won't let you check-in, or better still the rogue Host can't try and get away with this scam becuase the technology won't let him.
