What about smoke penalty? From a fire in the microwave?

Had a college student guest show up for his month long intern, and within two hours of showing put a bag of popcorn in the microwave for 3 minutes and walked away, to use the restroom! It once had a nice smell in it, and now smells like a house that burned down. The house and any thing in it, including the guest and myself, wreaked of pungent burned popcorn smell, as he just about caught the new microwave on fire! I could smell it on him when he came and rang my door bell, and then I went in and it stuck too me, even with the fans on and doors open! He's a law student and I need to teach him a lesson about law and ethics. Any lawyers out there that want to guide me as a host prove to the student that in Texas the landlord laws are strong, even on a month stay with Airbnb? I feel like I will need to do a complete wipe down, possibly remove pillows, bedding, couches, rugs, as the smell was that bad, in a place that was left smelling wonderful before.

What to do?

You can contact AirBnB and get them to cancel the booking.

Everything is perfectly normal, now that you've got that booking you can get started with cleaning after your guest.

Sounds like you need a mom here rather than a lawyer, @Damian14. Teach him the lesson by asking him to help you with the wiping and laundry?

I gave him some cleaning supplies and Febreeze. He said the smell is gone and he cleaned it. We'll see what it smells like in a few days. Thanks y'all.
