I can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere on airbnb. I have had about several guests so far - all except for one have been wonderful. I have decided not to leave a bad review for this guest, even though I think other hosts should know that the guest was a 'bust' as guests go. Not anything major, but at the same time, I would not recommend this guest to other hosts. The guest had nothing but good reviews, mind you, and I am left to wonder if other hosts who were unhappy and tempted to leave a bad review decided against it, because there was just no match between what the guest's reviews were, and the guest's behavior and attitude at my place.
Meanwhile, I keep getting the come on from airbnb reminding me I have only so many days to leave a review. The guest has not apparently left a review for me, which is fine.
My question is - what happens if I DON'T leave a review? Can the guest still leave one for me? Or is the guest prevented from leaving a review unless I leave one also?
Thank you.
If you don't leave an honest review, or leave no review at all, you are doing a huge disservice to the airbnb community! Be honest so we can weed out these bad apples and protect other hosts from suffering the same fate. I've hosted over 1500 guests. 99% of the time they are totally cool! And I let the world know it in my review. I have only had to write maybe less then 10 bad reviews in 5 yerars of hosting. Of that amount, about 3 of my guests were so terrible, that I destroyed them in my review, so as to guarantee that no other host would have to face the nightmare that I had to deal with.

I need the answer to this as well.
I had a guest who was complaining about the drive, complaining about the weather, just complaining about everything. I walked him to the Convention Center to help him out (I walked him for a block and a half) and didn't even get a simple thank you, he just walked off. I checked up on him over the days to see how he was doing and if he needed anything and only got a quick response. I thanked him for his stay, no response. Anyway, I don't want to know how he reviewed me, I have a 5 star rating at the moment and I can only imagine him complaining about this and that.
So, if I do not review him, will his review of me show up?
If guest review you after 14 day it will show in your profile. No matter you review or not.
His review will show up. If you don't agree with it, you can write directly a refutation, visible for everybody.
That would not serve him well, because possibly to be read by other future hosts.
Having not written a review since some weeks, I don't know wether a questionnaire opens
up, which you can address directely to AirBnB, invisible to others.
Where do you find the reviews a guest has left for other hosts? I've looked and cannot find it.

@JoAnn67 You go to your guests profile and if a host has left a review for your guest press on the host photo. You will then be at the earlier hosts profile and if your guest did leave a review you will be able to see it.
@Shelley0 it will show up regardless of whether you review him or not. But remember if you have the majority good reviews and one “ bad” people reading know how to use good judgment. Everyone knows there is always that one jerk. I recently stayed in a place that has stellar reviews and one person out of no where complained about a stain on sheets and claimed the place was dirty and had to leave. That’s an extreme thing to say but I had to good sense to realize that if 100 other people said it was clean, it was probably clean. I was correct and enjoyed My stay. One or two jerks can’t Ruin your business so try not to worry about it too much!!
Had the same question, maybe it has been answered. I have a guest that complained about pet hair in the sheets and pillows when I know for a fact that there was none, at least when I left the house. Freshly laundered linens. Has anyone ever experience a guest making things up in order to get out of a booking early? This is only my second booking so I'm a bit put off by the experience. Hopefully it's anomalous. I am trying to decide whether to leave an honest review or leave nothing at all and respond instead to whatever review may appear on my page in 14 days. I am really just looking for advice on what kind of judgment call I should make here.
Did you see Nutth's advice up above. I thought it was brilliant and it serves it's purpose of letting other hosts know and you could select the do not recommend to other hosts. I'm going through the same thing with the current people as far as how I'd want to review them. The ameteur travlers are the worst. They expect hotel ammentities on a less than hostel budget. My current guests asked me to provide food items in the kitchen when the kitchen isn't even an included part of the listing.
---"They expect hotel ammentities on a less than hostel budget" just nails it.
I have had an issue with a recent guest, and I am concerned. This particular guest had stellar reviews from other hosts. I have had a much different experience with this guest, and I would like to write what happened in my review of them...
they instantly booked my place months before their travel date. When I asked them if they would need parking, they responded that they cannot afford to rent a car because I was charging too much for parking. Next, they wanted me to deliver the key to them in person, which I always do- but I happened to be going out of town to celebrate the holidays with my family and told them I would not be here. I left the key with a trusted friend who met them. Boy was it a mistake being on vacation while they occupied my apartment! Shortly after they checked in, I got a call from them. They complained about my balcony sliding door not having a lock. Well... the balcony is is located on the 19th floor. They said they’ve been robbed 2x in past Airbnb’s and that they don’t want someone to steal their belongings. I reassured them on the phone that it is impossible for a thief to climb 19 stories up to our unit. They told me they would sleep on it and decide in the morning if they want to stay. The next day they told me the apartment was unsafe and dirty as well. They said they took pictures and would go to Airbnb to get a refund. At this point I just wanted them out, and I could have cared less about the money. Unfortunately, I was not physically there and there was no way I could make sure they had left. They already had the key, and knew all the codes to access the building. After their stay had ended, they requested a partial refund with photos attached. They stated “the pictures speak for themselves” and the apartment was “dirty, old and a bit disgusting”. From the pictures, I could tell they scoured the apartment looking for every paint chip and piece of dust. I have yet to see they review they left for me- but I know it will be less than great. I have been hosting for about 6 months now, with and 98% occupancy rate. This has never happened! I want to wane future hosts of this guest, as they made me so uncomfortable while I was on my holiday- I had to spend my time calling Airbnb instead of enjoying activities with my family.
@Bryana1 Now they Sound like the guests from hell!!! What ended up happening review wise??
I am so sorry this happened to you. I just started hosting my empty NYC apt 5 weeks ago. My very first guest, as soon as she walked through the door ,immediately started complaining about every little petty thing. Even had the nerve to demand that I give her and all three of her guests their own separate keys. Being that I did not want a bunch of keys floating around to my apartment and digital keys are very expensive to make and afraid I would not get my all my keys back , I told her “I’m sorry there is only one key to the person that booked the reservation” and it would have to be shared among the guests. About six hours later , well after midnight, she contacted AirBNB stating my apartment was really dirty and was not described correctly and said that she would be checking out in the morning. For two weeks I sat on pins and needles waiting for this horrible review to come and nothing ever came luckily ,so I left no review about her either . It’s incredible how this person showed up to check in 3 hours late with no warning, ignored my calls and texts regarding her status and brought 2 extra people and crowded in my tiny two bedroom apartment, expecting a five-star hotel for only 120 a night . I think people have a lot of nerve and if they don’t like the situation I have to offer, then go pay 500 per night for a hotel room in New York City. My feelings were really hurt because I had a professional cleaning company to come in and gave it my heart and soul and everything I had to make these people happy. Even gave them free coffee, bottled waters ,Snapple ,brand new sheets towels and comforters and luxury amenities, just to be treated like crap. They also left a dirty ring in bathtub and peanut shells on floors and a used sanitary napkin on bathroom floor.
Would "I have elected not to leave a review for this guest." achieve the desired affect without having failed to leave a review, perhaps?
