Where is my refund for a canceled reservation?

I applied a couple of gift cards to my account a few months back. I made a reservation with those funds in my account.

Due to work constraints, I couldn't travel next month and needed to cancel a Flexible reservation which costs $172. Airbnb's receipt says it was refunded back to me but I don't see it on there (I only see $66 on my account).

It looks like Airbnb's system refunded $124 but not the full $172.

Partial Refund of $124 instead of $172

Did you only pay with gift cards or did you also use a credit card?  If so, the remainder went back on your credit card.  If you have cancelled more than 3 times this year, you may not receive your service fee back.

@Rommel3 - while I don't know a lot about gift cards on Airbnb, you said you applied "a few".  Is it perhaps that since you used more than one that each of the cards were refunded the portion used for that reservation?

You'll probably have to contact Airbnb directly to get this fully resolved.  Go to the Tips and Tutorials section where you'll find "Contacting Airbnb" and it provides all the ways you can get ahold of them.

I don't think I paid for the difference using a credit card. I don't see Airbnb on a recent card transactions in Mint.

I might have used a travel credit but the weird thing is the difference between the receipt ($172) and the refund ($124) is an odd number for a credit ($48).

@Rommel3 - if you used a Travel Credit, you would need to contact Airbnb to get that back.  They don't have an automated way of reissuing travel credits.

I also use Mint and they do a LOUSY job of identifying Airbnb payments and a credit card reversal will probably come up as something else all together.  You can look at your Airbnb receipt for the reservation to see how you paid, I believe.  Plus a credit card credit takes forever.  Visa holds on to that money for as long as legally possible.

Hope it all gets cleared up soon.  Post back so we can learn how it was resolved.  Knowledge is power for everyone and the Gift Cards are just really starting to come into play so we're still learning.

I'll try to find a way to contact Airbnb... It seems like it's harder & harder to get a hold of a rep when it comes to payment issues.
