An oldie but goodie scam targeting hosts

This has been around for a while, but a warning bears repeating to newbie and veteran hosts alike.

Scammers go on phishing expeditions to gain access to host accounts by sending them messages by inquiries or email telling the host that they have found their listing on another site for a nightly rate less than what they see on Airbnb. They provide a link to the "other listing".

What?? Really?? How is this possible?? I've got to go look!!

DON'T!

You will be directed to a website that includes the name airbnb but lacks the https and Airbnb.com.  You will be asked to login in using your email address and login password.  If you do this, you will have given away the keys to your account and the scammer can then change your account details including payout method.

Here's an example: scam other listing.JPG

It's a scam.  Please don't fall for it!

Don't trust any website that doesn't include "https: Airbnb.com"

Stay safe, my friends!  Clare

Thank you for taking the time Clare. Normally I'm too internet savy to fall for this but who knows pernhaps after not enough sleep and a bit of panic. Good to know!

Best,

Ephraim

Ah, @Ephraim0, New York street smarts!  Unfortunately too many hosts fall for it.  😞

Wow, thank you for sharing this. I would be sooo curious (even if I knew it was a scammer) to click, just wouldn't have thought the scam would also be a hack!

Terrifying!

This scam is still running, have received 2 such requests recently.
Disappointing that Airbnb are not filtering random web addresses from messages.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I have yet to come across this, and would like to believe I wouldn't click on the link... but you never know! Appreciate you sharing
