BAD GUESTS!

Just canceled a booking after the guests tried to take the piss big time. 5 Guests booked, a few days before the booking the Guest informs me that there will now be a total of 9 people staying. The guest tried to make me out to be the bad person!

Your listing says 8 people maximum, so you could have changed the reservation to 8 people.

But 9 is indeed a violation, unfortunatelly cancellation will give a negative impact on your rating.

@Gray5 Frustrating indeed! Next time call Airbnb when this happens and let them speak with the guest or do the cancellation for you so your ratings are not hurt. You might even call them now to share what happened and ask if the cancellation can be removed from your record - If you are a new host, and didn't know to call them first, maybe they will be forgiving this one time. Can't hurt to ask.

Thanks, I did speak to Airbnb and they were great and very understanding.  Airbnb staff are really decent people and not scripted robots.
