Can I do Airbnb while being a tenant in Kuala Lumpur?

Hi, I'm Divani from Sri Lanka.

I'm moving to a two room service apartment in Kuala Lampur.
I am planning to start airbnb with the extra room, since i'm really intrested to host.

Can someone tell me the possibilties of this:

-can i short term rent the apartment while being the tenant in Kuala Lumpur?
- Is it leagle?

As a tenant you will have to ask your landlord for this. Normally the renting contract mentions that subrenting, hosting etc. is not allowed. So you need (written) permission to do it legal. If you do Airbnb hosting without permission, there are some risks.

You need to learn Malaysia property law for re rent or sub rent. Don't put your self in risk. As you are foreigners not suggestable to rent.

Ans: Sorry, you cannot rent the apartment when you're a tenant, because in Malaysia Laws when you rent this apartment you're not acceptable to re-rent to another person, even is 1 day.

- Is it leagle?

Ans: It is not legal !!!! This is very important ! You have to know, being a host in Airbnb Malaysia, we also need to pay income tax to our goverment. If our goverment or your owner know it, you will get big trouble.
