What do you like to bake?

Baking.jpg

Hello everyone,

If you’re anything like me, when you watch a cooking tv show like 'The Great British Bake Off' (a popular UK based show), you get inspired to do some baking yourself. Although, my creations don't always go to plan!

I know from conversations here in the CC that some of you provide your guests with a homemade treats and so,  i’m sure we must have some talented bakers here! What do you enjoy baking? Do you bake things for your guests or more for your friends/family?

I look forward to hearing about your culinary creations, please share photos if you can.

Thank you,

Lizzie

For our guests staying in our farmstay with us I bake banana bread,  homemade muesli (granola) and I also make yoghurt and jam. This is all part of the breakfast put out for guests in their rooms. I've had a lot of positive feedback about it. One guest even said it was the best muesli she'd ever eaten.  The banana bread is always a favorite. Of course you can't please everyone so once in a while we get comments that they wanted a full cooked breakfast with bacon and eggs etc. We aren't able to offer that for a number of reasons and it would put the cost up significantly too.

I will keep baking for our guests as 99% love it. It is also a great way to use our farm grown blackcurrants. I use them in muffins and of course the jam which is delicious !

Hello @Michelle264,

Thanks for your reply. I absolutely love banana bread, i've been meaning to bake some myself. Have you ever tried it toasted? I tried some toasted at the weekend and it was pretty nice, with jam on it (I still think I prefer it, as it comes though).  🙂

It's lovely to hear your guests enjoy your baking. I bet it fills your home with an amazing smell.

Have you always baked?

Great topic

Just made some plum jam...first time in years.

Also stumbled on a recipe in Papers Past NZ that used peel of lemons to make lemonade - simply slice squeezed lemon peels into a saucepan / pot, ad water, bring to the boil and simmer til soft. Remove peels, add sugar & lemon juice as desired.

I've bottled it in glass sake bottles.

It makes a refreshing drink diluted with water and served with fresh mint ice cubes on the delightful summer days we have been having recently

I offer breakfast basics to make toast & tea & coffee for my guests. I bake sourdough bread for guests to slice themselves in the morning & homemade jams and marmalade.

Some guests don't take up the opportunity for breakfast at home as they prefer to explore the Melbourne cafes, but some guests do. I had a French couple stay with me a couple of months ago. In 3 days they managed to eat a whole loaf of sourdough, large jar of homemade apricot jam (unfortunately my last one!) and almost a whole block of butter. So I think they enjoyed it 🙂

Hi @Lizzie. I tend to supply food produce for guests to make their own meals.

I’ve been known to provide homemade cookies and/or banana loaf, in between commercial standbys. I always make sure I have some bolognese sauce frozen. It’s not for everyone, but is offered to international families who have just landed in Australia. With the longer delay through customs, an 8-9pm arrival can be hard on children. There is always the breakfast produce available, but to have some pasta in situ that is quick to cook, some bolognese sauce and cheese... just makes their night easier. It’s what I would want with kids........

           Kids happy= parents happy!

I just keep it simple! None of us need the stress. Guest and host alike!

I love baking and when guests arrive, the house smells like a bakery. It makes them feel home and welcome. Ofcourse I'll offer something sweet but only if I still have some left because I'm a cookie monster you know...

I offer the full bed and breakfast experience. Omelets from our own chickens, fruit, juice and jams made from fruit we get from either our farm or the neighbor. And warm muffins, bread or crepes served fresh every morning. Last month I had a gluten free guest, it was so sad, no good baking for a week.

I do not like to bother much and always in such cases I make apple pie)

Yes, I do like baking. And enjoy my finished cakes while playing my favorite game bitlife - apknite
