Airbnb Allowed Host to Evict Us with 15 Min Notice & Threaten Police

We had one of the worst Airbnb experiences imaginable, and Airbnb is refusing to help.

  • Our host falsely accused us of breaking the rules, despite the fact that the listing had unclear policies and never stated what she claimed.
  • When we explained ourselves, instead of talking to us like normal human beings, she immediately resorted to threats and intimidation.
  • She gave us 15 minutes to leave the apartment and said she would call the police to remove us if we didn’t comply.
  • We were left stranded in freezing weather with nowhere to go.

I called Airbnb multiple times and started several chat threads desperately seeking help while we were being unfairly forced out. Nobody helped. No Airbnb representative intervened to protect us from an unjust eviction. As a result, we were literally left on the streets with nowhere to go.

How does Airbnb justify this? How does Airbnb allow a host to make an unproven accusation, immediately jump to threats, and leave paying guests stranded with no due process?

What has happened since you posted your question?

Airbnb investigated and gave us a full refund, compensated us and promised us that there would be repercussions for the host.

What rules did they accuse you of breaking? What policies were unclear @Nadine958 ?

normally a host can only ask you to leave if Airbnb cancels the booking.

We had 2 visitors and they claimed that the rules state no visitors allowed. However the rules only said that the apartment accommodates 2 guests i.e. to sleep.

Airbnb agreed with her initially as she must have lied to get them to agree to cancel our booking in the middle of the night.

However, after I raised the roof, they investigated and gave us a full refund, compensated us and promised us that there would be repercussions for the host.

The whole situation was quiet scary - especially considering she's a superhost and has great reviews.

Did you ask what "repercussions" were for the host?

Was her account suspended or her listing taken down?

Airbnb has a duty to protect you and other guests especially in the case of a "superhost" who violated your rights and endangered you by forcing you to leave and stranding you on the street during an active reservation .

Ask Airbnb WHAT exact repercussions were taken. Since I had the similiar experience as yours, I know that Airbnb regularly lets hosts get away with violating Airbnb policies and terms, especially - most especially - superhosts (it appears).

If you can supply me your email or social media contact, I'd like to communicate with you, should you wish to. I can provide you with advice about what you should do right away to protect yours - and other guests - rights and safety. Remember Airbnb says your "safety is our top priority."
