Do Hosts make better guests?

Hello everyone!

Today I’ve been thinking about all the kinds of guests that Hosts will come across during their Hosting journey!

You’ll have hosted people from different countries, of different religions, from different kinds of communities… it’s a big old world out there, full of all kinds of people!

What I’m wondering though… is do Hosts make better guests?  Knowing the trials and tribulations of Hosting, have you found your fellow Hosts to be extra respectful? Or have they taken the opportunity to be a bit more relaxed?  Have any of you hosted someone who is a Host that posts here on the CC?  Why don’t you tell us all about your experiences?

I’m looking forward to hearing all about your thoughts on this subject.

Take care!

Jenny

I am in America and dread guests who are hosts. Not to stereotype, but hosting in a rural area with no actual ownership of the property is different than hosting as an actual owner in a bustling vacation town. I just had a host check in and immediately proceed to rip apart all of my mattress toppers and find a stain inside of one on the underside of it that was also buried under 2 clean protectors and clean sheets and was not the side thst you lay on. This would be like finding a stain under a couch. They made wild accusations about the cleanliness of my property and then proceeded to try to extort me for an additional $800 after I refunded an agreed upon $1000 and sent my cleaner out to fully rectify everything. $1800 total would have left me paying for thier trip as it was the entire amount pre tax/fees for 5 nights. They had just arrived mind you. When I wouldn’t give them more money they called Airbnb and got a full refund. I had to throw away my mattress toppers which were very nice because of the damage they caused. Hosts who are mostly just cleaners in a rural non busy community and are collecting 20% per stay plus the cleaning fee but have no financial investment in the property they host may behave differently. I am still trying to decide how to report this person, but Airbnb is allowing them to leave a review and I don’t want retaliation (my property has 36 legitimate 5 star views and nothing less). And in general, guests who are hosts are the more difficult guests and often demand compensation for minor things. Maybe they view it as an employee discount not sure.

Yea hosts as guests in my opinion are more critical than guests. When I see the host icon, I actually dread a bit.

They definitely know their stuff more than the average guest, but are way more critical as well. Overall, would prefer not having actual hosts as guests.
