High electricity consumption by the guest.

Hello! I have been a host in Rzeszow, Poland, for a few months now. I have a small apartment for rent. During the last stay, I noticed that the guest is using a very high amount of electricity. They don't turn off the lights even during the day and leave them on in all rooms. The guest stayed for over a month. Have you experienced similar situations? How do you handle such a situation? Do you inform guests before their stay about the included energy consumption and that excessive usage will incur additional charges? If so, how do you technically charge such guests? I appreciate your suggestions. Thank you!"

@Tomasz107 sadly guests are occasionally like this. As a result we have LED bulbs throughout so it really doesnt cost too much when a bad guest arrives.

This days there are access control system which works by putting card in to dock of electricity  thus for check in once cars is out on gate doors get open however to start electricity inside room you have to put your access control card in electrical dock then electricity starts in this room same way for check out they have to take out the access control card so as soon as they leave and remove the card all lights get switched off . U may try this

You can perhaps gently encourage mindful use of energy in your arrival correspondence or house notes, but you can't reasonably enforce this or try to charge extra. You can only try to find energy saving arrangements.

Heating is likely to be a much more significant cost element than lighting, which you may be able to control to an extent through use of timer settings or a smart thermostat.

At the end of the day I'm afraid that you will just need to handle it through your charging structure to ensure that your energy costs are covered. You will probably find that the majority of your guests are fairly reasonable so things will balance out overall.
