Unfortunately Airbnb has done nothing to result he situation. I’m now broke and at risk of losing my home, car, financially my credit is now destroyed. I can’t get financial assistance and have dealt with increasing depression because I’m in constant pain.
I now see they have started to do background checks after I told them all the inconsistencies I found. Aliases, doesn’t own the home. I’m having to involve legal help and many attorneys have been extremely considerate and have offered to take the case at no cost to me.
I tried to simply get a refund from Airbnb and medical bills taken care of by hostess.
Airbnb always states they are referring me to the department to take care of this but all I’ve gotten is the run around.
I had to call the police for my own safety and ended up sleeping in my car because they couldn’t find me a place to stay. It was freezing in January. I’m a first responder and left my home to care for Covid patients and this was the worst treatment. They treated me no better than a stray dog. Plus I had to pay for another place to stay. Since this occurred in a private residence it was not considered a work related injury. I’m barely getting by. Can’t pay for food or bills because my savings is all used up. I went a week without running water because of the severe weather ice storm in January with frozen plumbing and leaks caused by extreme cold. Lack of medical care and emotional distress is taking its toll. I begged Airbnb to intervene and they have not. I sent pictures of injuries. I have amassed enormous emergency room bills because my insurance is not paying because the hostess was clearly at fault.
They are still listing this person as a host and she never wore masks or gloves nor cleaned anything. I had to purchase all my supplies and clean. Expected to care for her cat and roaches and bed bugs. I did my own background and she has many aliases.
I don’t know how much more I can handle.
Thank you for your kind words and listening. It’s a blessing to know at least someone cares.
@Patty305 I'm sorry you have found yourself in this situation and that Airbnb hasn't helped you.
But I'm not sure why you think the host or Airbnb should be responsible for your medical bills. It sounds like you just fell? How is the host responsible for this?
What the host is responsible for is the state of her listing, and its accuracy. If it's dirty and infested with bugs and the living situation wasn't clear in the ad, or if she is operating illegally, then what is appropriate is for you to get a refund for your booking and for Airbnb to shut her listing down.
But unless you tripped and fell because there was something dangerous- a loose board, a cord strung out across the room, or the host assaulted you, I don't see how your injuries are something you think are the host's fault.
Of course it was extremely rude and irresponsible for the host not to phone an ambulance.
@@Sarah977 It seems the room and the same bed were rented to another person at the same time when she was staying there and that person was the man she mentioned. (The room has just one bed and it is listed for just one person.) So, it seems the man surprised Patty, start yelling at her and somehow she fell on the floor. The man then went to tell the host to call the ambulance but the host didn't. In the end, Patty called the ambulance by herself and went to the hospital. While she was in the hospital her belongings were stolen.
The host is guilty bc she put Patty in this situation.
At least that's how I understood the story.
@Branka-and-Silvia0 I admit I found the details of the story hard to decipher as to what exactly caused her to fall. Of course a host trying to rent the same room to 2 different guests at the same time is outrageous, and if that was the cause of her fall, indeed the host should be held responsible.
@Sarah977I found her review on her host's listing and from what she wrote it seems she was asleep in the bed when this other man came in the room and start yelling at her. She woke up and jumped out of bed in the dark and fall, hit the head etc...
It seems the host rented the same bed in the same room to two guests who work in opposite shifts
Or so I understood...
