Unapproved guests

Twice in the last few weeks, I have had reservations for one or two guests, but ended up with a family of seven on a reservation for one guest. They even had the audacity to sign my guest book with names of the entire group.. The most recent was a reservation for two, but every bed and couch was slept in, and at least four adults and six kids were counted. My house limit is four. This group left so many whisky bottles, gummies and pills all through the house. Shooting targets stuck to trees in back, and a fire at the edge of a forest. Every dish in the house had been used and left dirty, with baked on food stuck in cookware. I could go on and on, but essentially it was the host’s nightmare.

This is becoming a trend, and Airbnb does nothing to support the host in such instances, with no compensation if the owner is the host and does cleaning themselves. We all know that with a group this size all costs go up. Seriously thinking about another route.
Are there other hosts experiencing the same problem?

@Katie1514 Nothing on your scale but many of our guests book for 1 and yet say 'they' or 'we' will be arriving.... It seems a common mistake that can be made so we just ask them to update the numbers by sending a change request which they all do.

I would suggest when you get a booking you thank the guest and confirm numbers with them at that point. Its not a failsafe but it will make it harder for them to have to lie about their numbers.

@Katie1514 , in addition to what @Mike-And-Jane0 suggested, you may also consider installing outdoor/exterior cameras (helps you monitor your property) and maybe add a house rule that only registered guest(s) are allowed on property. This might prompt guest to be a little bit more forthcoming on how many guest(s) will be staying on your property.
